Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIf Trump fires Rosenstein and gets someone else to fire Mueller, how much protest will there be?
I am committed, as I know many of you are, but what about the rest of America?
Also will Republicans praise it or remain silent?
This will be a critical event in this nation's history!

(14,732 posts)congresscritturs making the appropriate desultory noises. There will be the usual street protests, carried for a few minutes on national TV and, on Fox "News" the usual "LW crazy" making incendiary statements. Then Congress will study the situation and reluctantly conclude that, although the President's decision to act in that fashion was truly regrettable there is nothing that Congress can do since it was, after all, perfectly legal. And then the 24 hour news cycle will become bored with the topic and move on to the next "Squirrel!!" and we will be left with a handful of Fitzmas II.

(13,888 posts)The only way I can see it working is if the Democratic Party promotes and encourages the protests. There will be violence, whether real or created, and what will happen with the leadership at that point?

(16,254 posts)It's hard to remember everything with this administration, but either Trump or someone else was talking about the protesters (I think from the inauguration who were arrested). They were saying protesters should be arrested. Anyone remember? We were yelling about freedom of speech, but I can't remember what it was all about and what brought it up. I think it was connected to that trial.
I remember thinking...there goes another bit of our democracy. Be careful out there. I'm too old to be in large crowds, but I'd sure love to bring my pitchfork and stand with everyone else.

I don't know if either the public or the political establishment would ramp up enough outrage with Trump.

(1,684 posts)I understand.....it IS dispiriting to see the garbage slung at Mueller, the FBI, and the Justice Department. And there is a lot more that is dispiriting, both past and present.
However, we all must stop this defeatism, and buck up! The more people who sound defeatist, the more other people will get discouraged. In effect, I believe this attitude can be a self fulfilling prophecy. If we activists on DU cannot muster the enthusiasm necessary to impel those not as motivated as we are to rise up, then our democracy is doomed.
I'm not willing to give up. Are you?
