All are part of an ancient network of asteroid collisions. He has a thing against asteroids.

Actually, I was thinking about his failed hotel resort (casino?) venture that had some issue with the territory... don't remember the whole plot. But it could also have something to do with him coming from Queens NYC.

The US is the main trading partner of Puerto Rico and accounts for nearly 90% of latter’s exports and over 55% of its imports.

The major items exported by Puerto Rico are chemicals, electronics, apparel, canned tuna, rum, beverage concentrates and medical equipment.

Most of its imports are to the US, with small proportions going to the Netherlands, Dominican Republic and the UK.

Chemicals, machinery and equipment, clothing, food, fish and petroleum products are the major items constituting Puerto Rico’s imports.

PR is a part of the United States. If a Minnesota grocer buys some Wisconsin cheese for their store, are they considered to be "importing" cheese? There are mainland US pharmaceutical companies that make some of their products in PR. When those products are shipped back to the mainland for distribution, is that considered importation? Am I missing something?

Part of the US, but no federal tax paid, for example. The distinction is far from new.

Some of the provisions were convenient and profitable for the island. They gave PR privileges, of sorts. So you can produce stuff on the Island and ship it--but no federal tax on what's "bought," and no federal income tax paid by the employees. It's a bit of a savings for companies and helps change the P/L calculations. They've gradually been phased out, though, and with each phase-out PR does worse.

The country will thank you. The PR governor has come under justified criticism for being too nice to Trump, but he is talking about mobilizing the PR "diaspora" in the states to vote DEMOCRATIC. Florida will be key in that effort.

Pretty sure that explains virtually all of the sentiment against it on this side of the pond. Puerto Ricans seem to have their own reasons, though.
