(58,785 posts)people like her only appear moderate -- but not at all compared to moderates of the past. The party moderates who wouldn't go along were purged long ago.
But I am wondering if the Republicans aren't punishing her for voting against repealing the ACA outright by hanging her up to dry before her constituents. We'll see.

the retired congressperson may or may not be of particular direct use to the corporations (as a lobbyist, e.g.), but that promise of a lavish retirement for cooperative congresspeople is very much of use to corporations.
reagan famously got $2 million for two speeches in japan shortly after leaving office. reagan clearly was of no use to anyone by then.
there's no way this wasn't a payoff, and an announcement of potential rewards for other willing politicians.
