If that black guy can convince members of the KKK to give up their robes, than certainly everyone here knows a Trump supporter that they can 'turn'. It just means you have to find out what their 'currency' is and smother them with it. We know Trump's currency is 'praise' and 'flattery'. Offer to let your Trump-loving neighbor 'read' your newspaper when you're through with it, (as a source of enlightenment) and then later chat with him or her about the politics section. You can start by informing him regarding the lack of "reform" included in what was 'supposed' to be a 'Tax Reform' Bill, but ended up simply as a 'Tax Cut' Bill a fact which the president readily admitted today. He even said he forbad the people involved to even mention the word "reform"

Let him know what the Faux News Channel won't tell him, like how 83% of the tax cut goes to the top 1% and ten years from now, it will be 93% of the tax cut. Back up your statements with facts; something that more likely than not is certainly in short supply with Trump supporters.

this response. I've tried this in a very elementary way just in talking. Facts don't change their minds. Their own LACK of facts for a given position doesn't change their minds. Them - "Obama is anti-police." Me - "What did Obama say or do that makes you think he is anti-police?" Them - "I don't know but (other person) thinks so." This is an actual conversation, by the way. They hate newspapers because the Trumpsters have convinced them that the press is the enemy. The New York Times could print that tomorrow will have more minutes of daylight than today and people I know who hate, hate, hate the NYT because they've been told to will call it fake news.

I feel very hopeless right now. I don't see a path by which people can become educated, even on an extremely basic level, on how things work so they can vote with at least a modicum of good sense. I don't know how this ends in a good way.

Married a Republican in 1981. In 2008, he began voting for democrats - and loves President Obama. He is, to his astonishment and occasional fits of disbelief, now a democrat.

at the polls.

Republicans do that and they win even though demographics are against them and they actually screw their base on a regular basis.

24. The only way I will discuss politics with a Trump supporter is in an indirect way.

For instance, instead of mentioning Trump I say something about the effects of the tax cut bill on myself or my family. These folks are conditioned to react to any mention of the word Trump or Republican but not so much on policy, as they know very little about it. You can easily get them to agree on some things if it isn't presented through a Democrat vs. Republican lens. Because they have been seriously brainwashed I think the only hope is to plant some seeds of truth and let them come to the realization through their own thinking process.
