Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said Thursday he has newfound empathy for President Trump after a report he benefited from a provision in the final GOP tax bill went viral.
I told (Trump) that Id had a healthy respect for the media and I deal with them all the time, and, you know, to attack the media has not been something Ive done, Corker said on Fox News.
Ive never ever in my life used the work fake news until today. I actually understand what it is the president has been dealing with, he continued.
Corker was responding to a story first reported by International Business Times and picked up by other outlets that a provision added to the tax bill during the reconciliation process would directly benefit those with real estate holdings, like Corker.
Corker said he was unaware of the provision, and said it was included in the House version of the bill then included in the final version submitted from a conference committee.

So reporting the fact that you personally stood to profit from a provision of the Tax Bill that you previously had opposed makes the media "FAKE NEWS" now. BTW, Bob, you had previously said that you wouldn't vote for the bill if it added one penny to the deficit. Instead of a penny, it adds 1.4 Trillion dollars. that's quite a few pennies, Bob.

I tend to believe the more innocent explanation for Senator Bob Corkers late vote switch on the tax bill. Yet I still find that explanation to be terribly damning.
The less innocent explanation is that Corker changed his vote from no to yes last week because his colleagues inserted a real-estate provision that will personally benefit him. This notion led to the talk of a #CorkerKickback on social media.
Corker insists that he hadnt even been aware of the new provision when he announced his support, and a couple of his colleagues have backed him up, saying they asked for the new provision. So far, there is no evidence to the contrary.
And there is another plausible explanation for the vote change: John McCains illness meant that Corker could become the deciding vote. While Corker was willing to grandstand against the bill, he wasnt actually willing to block it.
Which is exactly what I find so damning.
Corker had previously said that if the tax bill added one penny to the deficit, he wouldnt support it. He also denounced the budget gimmicks in previous versions of the bill that were designed to obscure its true fiscal effects. Yet he is supporting a final version of the bill that will add something like $1 trillion to the deficit over 10 years, according to independent analyses, even before taking into account its blatant budget gimmicks. ...

(82,849 posts)The million dollar payday was a reward for Corker's vote.
What's also interesting to me is the seeming consensus that's emerged that this disastrous new law will cost "only" another $1.4 or $1.5 trillion to the deficit. If there's any kind of an economic downturn, that number will double, maybe triple.

(10,749 posts)Hows this for an exercise?
Behave like a normal human being. Legislate like a normal human being. Have compassion for Those less fortunate. Dont be stupid.
Now, at the end of that exercise, I wonder how the press will treat you? State media will probably ignore you or condemn you, but you wont criticize state media. The MSM will probably say nice things and move on.
Then, tell me how you feel about the media. And tell me if youve discovered the connection between being a decent human being and supporting a sociopath.
And in case you didnt quite get the summary message, here it is: you are a fucking moron.

(10,828 posts)This is the same Bob Corker who said he wouldn't support a Tax Bill that added a penny to the debt or deficit.
I know the tune is: don't trust you lying eyes or ears. But Senator, you were on the news shows saying just that. While the whole world watch and listened.
So excuse us all if we don't buy into the late-to-the-party empathy and complaint.
Shame on you all!!
