Many times there are more than one post about the same thing. It's the nature of the forum. People want to post things they think are important.

If you think I have personally attacked anyone, then please cite the relevant comment. I think my questions were legitimate.

The only persons who should be concerned about such questions are trolls. I'm not saying that I have the solution, but I do think the trolls are often playing games with the paradox of tolerance by attacking OTHER people using intolerance.

My perception is that DU (and much of the Internet) is becoming quite intolerant of divergent opinion. I could explain it in more detail, but I think it will suffice to link you to the Wikipedia page and ask you consider the implications carefully. If you need help, feel free to ask, though I think it would be unuseful, possibly even silly, to say more (if my understanding of the dynamic of DU is correct).

14. Sorry, but I do NOT enjoy DU.

I see from my profile that I have been a member since 2002. Your [iluvtennis'] profile says you joined last year.

However I have been active in computer-based discussion forums for decades before that. I like thoughtful discussions of interesting topics, even if the discussions sometimes become complicated or slightly heated. My overwhelming perception of the trend has been that the Internet is going the other way, and I do not enjoy that.

I recommend the book called The Shallows if you want more details. However another one of my overwhelming perceptions is that most people don't read many books these years. I actually regard it as a so-so year if I read fewer than 100.
