Colorado Democratic Party renames it's annual "Jefferson-Jackson" Dinner after.....Barack Obama

Newsweek:

To honor the Obama family, Colorado Democrats announced on Monday a name change to a fundraising event formerly known as the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.

In recent years, the event has been given new names by several states that were concerned it would be associated with slave owners. The Colorado Democratic Party said the new name honors the "historic contributions" of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

"The Obama legacy embodies the values we hold as Democrats, and we are beyond proud to rename our annual dinner after our former first family," said Pilar Chapa, executive director of the Colorado Democratic Party in a Monday press release on the party's website. "The Colorado Democratic Party is proud to honor the historic contributions from the former first family by naming our dinner the Obama Dinner."

The first Obama Dinner will be held in February 2018.

Voted at last year’s Jefferson Jackson dinner to change the name effective 2018, but haven’t settled on new name yet.
I think Obama would be a great name, there is also sentiment for FDR to be in the name.

We could add a Republican and put both Roosevelts in. We need a trust-buster like Teddy again (but without Teddy’s foreign policy).

I tried to get NC to rename it's JJ 10 years ago and almost had it done but the "old guard" of the State Executive Committee managed to table my resolution. They have since renamed the other big dinner in the fall which was also poorly named.

Great idea to honor the Obamas. Hopefully more states will follow suit.

Especially dumping that racist, ass Jackson. He's no more a Democrat in today's terms than Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner are Republicans.

It might piss off the opposition, but hell, Repubs are gonna find something to be pissed about anyway. It's past time to stop doing the right thing because it might irritate them.
