(31,261 posts)And that person picks a Vice President. Even if the Speaker of the House is a republican, that person would be very wise to pick a Democrst as VP. But if the Soeaker is a Democrat, given what has happened, that person would be under no pressure to pick a republican as VP, the very opposite may be more important, picking a ethically pure Democrat as VP.

(4,544 posts)On November 29, he quoted himself from the GQ interview linked below in a tweet. The quote was:
"If we cant get checks on the presidency from Congress, my office wont hesitate to fill the space. Im willing to bet on the rule of law.
(NOTE: "by Congress" could be taken two ways: 1) the Congressional committees fail to act, or 2) Congress fails to act when Mueller concludes his investigation and recommends impeachment.)
Evidently, Schneiderman wanted to stress that point by tweeting it as a quote. I have long felt that he is part of the backup plan. If for any reason, it is necessary for him to step in so that justice prevails, I believe he will not hesitate to do do. Whenever I begin to feel hopeless, I remind myself of this.

(570 posts)1) It came out several months ago that Mueller was coordinating with NY prosecutors, and that state charges were likely to be filed first. If federal charges are brought and Trump pardons, then state charges cannot be filed for the same crimes because it would be double jeopardy. However, if state charges were filed first, Trump could do nothing about it because his pardon authority is at the federal level only.
2) One of the first people who Mueller brought on his team was the prosecutor who brought down the Gambino and Gotti crime families. Looks like Mueller has been approaching the investigation the same way as he would going after any other big name crime family.
Of course, this means that even if Mueller is fired, the Trump and Kushner families, among others, will still be left in financial ruin. Firing Mueller wont stop that. Then what would be left to do is the mopping up the political side with charges like conspiracy against the United States, obstruction of justice, and sedition. And that could encompass most of the GOP.

I assumed something like this could be a backup plan if Mueller is fired.
It sounds a lot better than letting Congress make the final decision.
