This fascism fiasco will foster a damn resilient citizenry. My hope is that a couple decades down the road the better half of America will be feisty as hell for equality. It will be in our blood! I like to imagine all of us being grumpy and taking absolutely no shit from no Nazis, because we learned better.

and in each one that I've posted in, I have strongly encouraged those who feel beaten down -- morally and physically -- to do everything in your power to take an active role in boosting your own overall health.

-Do some exercise. The rush from endorphins is a powerful and natural stimulant that provides a real pick-me-up.

-Eat a healthy diet (easier said than done at this time of year).

-Surround yourself with friends and family. Live in the moment and savor it!

-Read some self-help books

-Volunteer to assist others in greater need than you are. It's amazing how much fulfillment can come from just being there when someone else is struggling.

-Get involved in politics at the local level and don't give up. As many other DUers have written here, if Alabama can go Democrat anything is possible.

Don't let Darth Vader Trump steal your mental and physical health in addition to corrupting the country. He doesn't have complete control over you unless you let him!!

All the best to you over the holidays and in 2018.

None of my docs seemed particularly interested -- basically, they said that you're an old lady, get used to it.

But in June my primary care physician did blood tests, and discovered that my hemoglobin was half of normal, that I was bleeding internally somewhere. Two months later, two hospital stays later, dozens of tests later, they found that my cancer had come back, and it was damaging one of my kidneys. And another month later and two more hospital stays, they found the duodenal ulcer that was causing the blood loss.

Was it caused by the stress of all that followed November 2016? The ulcer, definitely! The cancer, I'm not so sure. All I know for certain is that without Obamacare, I'd probably be dead by now. I can afford the $13,000 in 2016 health insurance payments, but the actual medical cost would have bankrupted me. Without the ACA, my preexisting condition would have barred me from purchasing health insurance. And every vote to repeal the ACA makes me worse.

Certainly the British, the Germans, Australia, France, Canada and especially Mexico. It boggles the mind and it's only getting worse. And now there's that insane stand in the UN. These are relationships that have stood the test of time and are essential in dealing with the global community. I can't see these being repaired while Trump is still around and it's getting worse, not better.

Maintain calm awareness.

Be poised to shift stance quickly.

Don't fight fears or worries. Whenever fears and worries rush in to overwhelm you, just say to yourself "Oh, hi. You again." Then mentally in your mind open a window and let a breeze waft them away. Direct yourself to something that needs to be done, not as a distraction, but as a way to maintain progress forward.

We will survive. We will persist and persevere.

You, me, DU, Democrats, the USA, this beautiful world. We will persist and triumph together.

Plus, I work in health care and most everyone I work with is also feeling it--bad. At least there is a lot of support for each other at work, but you can't get away from it. Some of our regular patients who know I'm a safe person to ventilate to, have also expressed their feelings of helplessness. It's like some sort of miasma permeating everything and everywhere. There is no escaping it. The only true escape is sweet, sweet sleep, so I've been doing a lot of that.

that nearly 2/3 of Americans are stressed and anxious over politics. The American Psych. Assoc. conducted a survey and found nearly 60% of the 3,440 people polled say that they consider the present day to be the "lowest point in our nation's history that they can remember". The issues that cause the most worries are social divisiveness, then health care, then the economy.
Most surveyed are losing sleep, experiencing headaches, and other physical signs. Pessimism is highest among the Dems and millenials, but also effects Repub and adults who served in WW2 and Vietnam.
This will have real health consequences.

I was pissed for a few weeks, but I decided, I was not going to let this get to me. I decided that my life is so much better the his life. He is just a sad, arrogant, narcissistic, sociopath that will always be remembered for one thing..... being the very worst president this country has ever seen.

I take in consideration that this is going to be our year... 2018 will be to the democrats what 2010 was to the right wingers.

I take in consideration that when a democrat is president in 2020, he/she on the first day of office can sit down with VP Frankin and sign an executive order stating...."This order reverses every executive order President Trump signed"

I take in consideration that in 2018 when we control both houses of Congress, our poor, seniors and immigrant citizens will no longer need to be afraid.

I take in consideration that our party will be electing younger, more progressive candidates and our future will be bright.

I take in consideration that many, but not all Trump supporters will finally see....
.....they are indeed getting fucked by him.
.....their mothers and fathers are also medicare recipients and social security recipients who will be paying more for their healthcare
and hate it.
.....their heath insurance premiums did go up even thought the ACA has been gutted and shouldn't have been.
.....Women are equal human beings.
.....Liberal is NOT a bad thing to be
.....Minorities, poor, seniors deserve to be treated decently, and not looked upon as useless wasteful spenders

This is why I am not depressed, because our country has seen terrible thing that have come and gone, and we will survive this too

62. I am a little angrier and have less patience with idiot drivers here in L.A.

But I'm not depressed. I never expected him to turn 'presidential' but I had no idea it would be THIS bad. Trump sucks. Every day when I wake up and check my phone, I'm hoping there is a CNN Alert that Trump has died of natural causes overnight. I'll take my chances with Pence over this asshole we have now in the WH.

Sometimes I just want to punch out those who said there is no difference between the Dems and the repubs. If they don't see it now, they are idiots. Young folks have the most to lose: The Supreme Court and trump is filling Fed judgeships (that were denied Obama) as fast as he can. The impact will be felt for years.

I lost a lot of weight from the depression that set in after the election. Got inspired by the women's march. Decided to join the gym to gain my weight back. Got to get strong to hold up signs and march. I can do pull ups now! It took 50 years but damn it I can do them now.

I'm ready! Bring it on!

66. I'm more disgusted than anything.

Dumbya destroyed me, my career, and my finances, and I gave up all hope of ever recovering from what he did to me and my country a long time ago. I'll probably die a lot sooner than I might have, thanks to him and his associates. I'm so disgusted that so many people fell for an obvious conman, who is a zillion times worse that Dumbya. And, now we're all being screwed again because of them, only many, many, many times harder. I only hope I live to see them all get what is coming to them. But, I'll be damned if I'm going to let them affect my health in any way, shape or form. Fuck the whole lot of them.

I am hardwired to look for a solution and I focus on working toward that solution. So, Trump being elected depressed my bigtime, but I have life goals, so I focused on working on those, plus, Trump may turn out to be great for our image as Democrats if he destroys a good economy that will destroy the Republican Party.

and it's been off the charts lately. It's really worrisome. My medication isn't helping me much through this.

I'm desperately trying to find a way to move out of the country, at least for awhile to try to lessen the effect, but not possible for me.

anyone in the White House like this President.

Yes, Nixon was corrupt and paranoid, but at least he was intelligent and knowledgeable.

I'm more depressed about the future for my grown children and for all our children.

74. Meniere's Disease (auto-immune inner-ear disease) on full gain 2016-2017.
Fri Dec 22, 2017, 09:36 PM
Dec 2017

I take my politics (probably too) seriously, and the election year and Year 1 of tRump have set me spinning, literally, with out-of-the-blue vertigo episodes. I've had this issue off-and-on since I was 21, but it took off like a rocket with all the insanity going on. I've been around awhile, and have lived through some mind-shattering events (assassinations of JFK, MLK, Jr., RFK, John Lennon), but NOTHING like this sustained attack on our democracy.

The stress led to a rapid hearing loss over a week's time last summer (left ear 85% gone) and thousands of dollars in medical bills and hearing aids. Fortunately, I have decent health insurance, thanks to Obamacare.

Fuck you, tRump!

I became so unbelievably angry last May while watching something about tRump, I screamed at the TV and was hit with the most horrid vertigo episode I've ever experienced! I vomited for two straight hours until my husband became so worried, he called an ambulance. (I spent five hours in the emergency room).

Now I'm very aware of my anger level when I read, and when he comes on the TV, I lower the volume and take a walk.

Fortunately, we have good insurance because that ambulance ride and the emergency room visit was very expensive!

80. MD is a total pain. I've had to hang onto lampposts while my wife gets the car.

I must look like the town drunk, but without the joy of intoxication. It's not the first time I've had to exit a restaurant, staggering.

It's awful. The vertigo (I get drenching sweats with it), the brain-fog, deafness, pressure, fullness, etc. I'm sure you know it well. Fortunately, the all-out vertigo episodes are rare, but there are all these mini-attacks where you don't know if it's just five seconds, or if you're going to hit the floor with your "strings cut."

Just as a caution, because even having dealt with this for 40+ years-- watch out for rapid hearing loss. MD sets you up for it. I was told that, had I gotten treatment sooner (prednisone, within a few days), that more of my hearing might have been saved. So, if you ever have a bad episode of deafness on one side, don't hesitate to have it checked. I didn't, because I simply thought, "There goes the MD again, and wow, this is a bad one." Little did I know just how bad. Pretty sure you already know this, but I didn't!

75. Yes, but I don't actually know to what extent
Fri Dec 22, 2017, 09:39 PM

I try to be cheerful and hopeful about it. I latch on to ANY successful pushback -- as when courts overrule him.

I also devour funny and/or uplifting things -- dog rescues, funny cat videos, the like.

And I remind myself: I may not be responsible for the thoughts that pop up in my head, but there's I AM responsible for the ones I allow to stay there. That helps a lot.

ETA: And I also get very, very tired, both physically and emotionally/spiritually.

pretty much every negative emotion. I can't watch or listen to him. I read my news and listen to Stephanie Miller. My husband gets mad at me for feeling so hopeless. I wish I had stayed in Sydney 12 years ago instead of coming back here.

Hoping for some more Mueller action. In my book club, we now spend about 30 minutes on the book and two and a half hrs discussing politics and how much we hate Trump.

I am getting less accomplished in my life because I'm always reading the news - i take my iphone in the bathtub with me so I can check Twitter. I check Twitter when I stop at red lights, I check Twitter in the parking lot after buying my groceries, etc. I've become a total news junkie.
