I will leaving for the farm in a few hours.
Lots of work to do there.
All is not lost.
The republicans always over reach, that is their nature.
With Moron they really did it this time.
Bob is still on the job and the truth is coming out.
Do not get depressed and down.
I just listened to a to tape I made of a neighbor about Pearl Harbor. This neighbor is now gone but I still have her on video tape and dvd now.
In December 1941 was a time like now.
This nation was dealing with a two ocean war and people were scared. The future was unknown.
My neighbor said that the holiday season was kind of quiet, I think.we know the feeling.
But the Americans back then knew what they had to do.
So do we.
We have a enemy that wants to destroy us.
Our enemy is Putin and his republican party.
We can stand and fight like the Americans did during WW2.
We have a job to do, to save this country.
We will do this.
Someone posted about General Washington and the Christmas crossing.
We all have seen that picture in school.
Enjoy the holidays the best you can.
Then come out fighting.
This is our country.
We can fix the tax code and whatever else needs doing.
But not if we give up.
Happy Holidays everyone.
It will get better.
We need to this for those that came before us and those that will come after.
This is our time.

(1,588 posts)Just have to cut the cedar tree growing in the meadow.
I have kept it trimmed up.
My Grandparents did that.

(47,107 posts)Enjoy the holiday.
This will be the first holiday in the old farm house.
I bought the small farm next to us.
Nice farm house and out buildings.
The kids and grandkids did not want to be bothered with the farm anymore.
That was their grandparents place.
It ours now.
I gave them what I thought was a low bid and they took it.
Have a great holiday.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)the expense or bother any more.
Glad you got a good deal.
Happy Holiday!
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)Four of us bought it.
Paid in cash.
It is a sweet little farm.
The grandparents were really nice people.
I knew them well.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)Too much work.
I think a small farm would be wonderful.
Small enough so that you do not have to work from sun up to sun down.
But big enough to have some peace and quiet. See nature up close.
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)The new farm is next door.
So the farms are now joined.
Still smallish.
A road joins the two farms.
It is nice.
Took down the old fence.
The cattle are there now.
We got a extra hay meadow and a patch of timber.
Wind mill and a nice deep well.
Our rescue city chickens are having fun running around the yard.
All is good.

Sounds very nice.
Wow, that is good, more hay, some timber which is valuable.
Great on the windmill and well.
Do you have milk cows too, or the just beef cattle?
My cousin's grandchildren tried keeping chickens on the farm.
But the raccoons kept getting them.
Then my brother and cousin had an argument about how to raccoon proof the henhouse, and what to do with the captured raccoons.
Always some drama on the farm.
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)I kept my eye on the farm next door.
Our chickens are doing ok.
We have some mean tough chickens.
We have chicken house to protect them at night.
We keep two milk cows so far.
They are like pets.
I could not eat one of them.
The rest of cattle are raised for beef.
Now we can have more cattle.
All my chickens are rescue chickens or their chicks.
We just got one rooster, three hens and baby chicks.
Not a great time of year for baby chicks.
I have a friend in animal rescue.
Our dog was rescue.
Our feral barn cats are feral.
We have two rabbits that rescue.
I will two news dogs in January.
A mother and her puppy.
I grew up on a farm.
I know where meat come from.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)That is so neat.
Generally the farmers I know do not eat their dairy cows, but sell them to market if need be. Or if they do eat them, they don't tell anyone!
I am glad you have a secure hen house and mean chickens.
The little cousins had spoiled the chickens since they were chicks
and I don't think they knew what to do with the raccoons.
The hen house looked like Ft Knox and the raccoons still got in.
Glad you got another hay field, that will be nice for the cows and cattle.
But of course you have to put up the hay in the summer.
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)The milk cows were twins.
The mother died after given birth.
We raised them on bottles.
These two cows will not be sold or eaten.
They are pets that give milk.
The chickens went after the feral cats when the cats got to close.
They are tough chickens.
They chased the cats up a tree and would not let them down.
We had to rescue the cats.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)Poor cats had to be rescued from the chickens.
Kitties, do not mess around with the chickens.
I guess they are safe from raccoons.
Yes people get attached to the milk cows, usually the farmer's children give them
names and yes they are like pets. I visited a large university agricultural research farm once where undergrad students were in charge of the dairy cows. The students spent more time with their beloved cows than other students.
And during the two week state fairs in farming states, when children from 4H show their cows, the children literally sleep every night with their milk cows in the stalls.
Dairy farming used to be labor intensive, all activities had to be scheduled around milking times. In the area where the family farm is located, the local priest even set a 6am Sunday Mass that lasted only 15 minutes so the farmers and children could get back to do the early morning milking.
One last question and then I will stop bugging you DemTex.
Do you use your windmill to pump water?
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)We have an electric pump for house.
In old days the windmill did all the work.
The feral kitties were new the farm.
They did not know better.
They never did it again.
The hens keep the cats in the tree all day.
Some of them had chicks so they ptotecting their babies.
It is best to let chickens be chickens.
Even the city chickens become farm chickens fast.
Nature takes over.
It is nice talking with you.
gvstn
(2,805 posts)Perfectly descriptive. And kind.
I can picture them!

(1,588 posts)My friend bought them to me.
They are good egg layers.
The rooster is beautiful.
We are animals lovers.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)took up raising chickens. It was a fad of sorts.
But then they got tired of it, or the zoning board made them get
rid of the chickens, so I guess they need to be rescued and
brought to farms.
Or made into Sunday dinner.
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)I feed them and gave them water.
They lived under the house until I took them to the farm.
I did not stop them from leaving.
We got fresh eggs from them.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)And gave you some eggs in return.
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)Nothing like fresh eggs.
I think some one threw them over the fence.
Irish_Dem
(47,107 posts)Demtexan
(1,588 posts)But not in the garden.
They liked that hay.
People throw away animals so easy.
They are farm chickens now.

(54,387 posts)This is one of those rare times of the year when all four of us are under the same roof. All five of us, really, as my wife picked up her mom from her house in northwestern Germany a couple of days ago.
Our younger daughter drove up from Frankfurt, and I managed to get done with things I had to do over in the Netherlands yesterday afternoon. Our elder daughter's flight was fifteen minutes early from New York, but their jetway was occupied, and they had to wait on the runway for fifteen minutes. So we spend today here in the Rheinland, and all travel down tomorrow to our younger daughter's place she shares with her boyfriend in the Taunus hills near Frankfurt. Tuesday, my wife and I, plus the two girls and the German boyfriend all fly, via various routes, to South Carolina, where we always spend New Year's.
We'll all take a break from the worrying. We'll not forget that not everyone can. We'll be back to worrying soon enough. Like the OP said, we need to do this for those will will come after. We just learned that our first grandchild is on the way. We don't even know if our daughter will even try to obtain U.S. citizenship for her son/daughter (she doesn't want to know in advance). That's her decision. But if she goes for dual citizenship, I hope the second nationality (USA, that is) turns out to be something to be proud of. My daughter has had a fabulous career so far (she is 32), in part due to the fact that she is bilingual and has both passports (USA and Germany). Those are precious gifts if you are in a position to give them to your children. Her call, though.

(1,588 posts)I loved it.
I only got out because Reagan got in.
I served at several bases.
Europe was fun.
Congrats on the baby.
I hope this country will be sane again.
Thankfully the baby will have German citizenship.
I here sitting by wood burning stove with one of the house cats and wondering about next year.
I have to hope it will be better.
Have a good holiday season. Enjoy your family.

(54,387 posts)We usually spend New Year's with an interesting and diverse bunch. Usually a few members of Congress around. It's all off the record, and I would get in some serious hot water if I started quoting people. But if there are any general impressions I can pass along, I will--especially if they're hopeful ones!!
Demtexan
(1,588 posts)Going back to my neighbor people were really afraid after Pearl Harbor but then they got angry.
We have to get pissed off and stay that way.
No backing off and no making nice with the republicans.
This is war.

(54,387 posts)I know one Democratic Senator who represents more of the "making nice" way of thinking (just the way he is), and a member of the House, who is very much aware that we are at battle stations.
