He said the republicans are falling into line because they know that the 33% supporting trump will stick with him no matter what. If the R congresscritters buck trump, trump and his media mad dogs will go after them, like they did Flake and McCain. They know DOTUS can kill their electability with a tweet, even if they are right.
Alternatively, dotus and putin may have kompromat on all of them.

(90,344 posts)... people who vote R stay home.
But they're not IMHO, they think they have Russian on tap ... only reason why they would do such politically stupid moves.

(7,505 posts)McConnel and Ryan certainly knew Trump was dirty as hell as were they. Some just knew he had a R beside his name and that was enough. They stayed on the horse too long and now can't get off. I do believe some are compromised and are being blackmailed. Expect many will decide they need more time with their families rather than go down in flames.

(56,828 posts)just look at the numbers of the various polls and his support among whites without college degrees has gone down quite a bit this year - Democrats have hated him from the beginning, but his numbers have gone from low 40s overall to low to mid 30s now because of the falloff among independents and Republicans. Trump's approval among Republicans is below that of George W Bush's entire first term and into the second until after Katrina.
The tax bill is not popular among his white working class supporters and he may lose some support there because of it. However, he may gain some support among wealthier whites who didn't like Trump but may gain because of the tax bill.

(19,838 posts)I've never heard DuPuy but Stephanie and most of the other regulars have been pretty supportive of Franken. I think they just don't like throwing friends under the bus so they've cut DuPuy a lot more slack than she probably deserves.
