About whom theyre doing a show tomorrow night
Hes got a new book out, Doomsday Machine, which I just got from my communistically styled, Tax (hahaha...auto complete tax into Tass) supported library
I was proud to have been in the march on Washington in 2003, with him at the head of the group of very outraged protestors
He went to jail from that march....IIRC, he was already in jail for protesting something else, and they let him out for the march
It was a high point, but, as all marches seem to do, since Vietnam, didnt accomplish much
His story is compelling, and should be spread far and wide (he was fairly certain to be spending a long stretch in prison for his efforts to inform the public about the venal lies that got us into the Vietnamese civil war, much as they lied us into Iraq, among other hot spots) .. particularly directed at anyone in the current junta who might have some semblance of a conscience, some sense of what their party has become, and what its doing to our country
If it hadnt been for the plumbers, hed have most likely been relegated to the status of the like of a Snowden, among others seen as mere traitors, as opposed to patriotic whistleblowers
Heard him on the radio yesterday, talking about touching an H bomb at a B 52 base, and feeling the radioactive thermal energy release, leaving it very warm on his hand
He related the discussions (in which he participated), that were satirized in Dr. Strangelove, during which they bandied about the deaths of 150 MILLION people, even in a first strike US attack, which would have left the commie response greatly reduced
Funny stuff!

(2,275 posts)If you think the presence of human bodies in large groups, amplified through the media, has no value, then you must never go to another meeting, another sports event, another lecture, another town hall. Stay home while the chemistry of social movements works its complex, reverberant, desire amplification without you.

And get off your high horse while youre at it. I havent been staying home....just voicing opinions already widely voiced for years. Do a little reading along with your self righteous preaching. I have, and I happen to fall on the less optimistic side; given the state were in, I dont see how unrealistic that seems
While theres research to support your opinion, theres plenty to disagree with your assertion
Here you go

(2,275 posts)We're a social species, therefore being in social gatherings is inherently good for us.
In fact, most of your links support this. The simple cause and effect relationship you are seeking between protest and specific political or legislative outcomes is not the only value of protest marches. They build community and commitment. They inspire. They model democratic solutions. There's a complex, unquantifiable array of effects.
The world isn't an equation.
