I think Trump will do his best to have Mueller ousted while the Congress is on Christmas break? He will fire Rosenstein and possibly Sessions first and then he will find someone to the dirty work! After yesterday's ridiculous showing in front of the White House, Trump has all the Repugs where he wants them, in the palm of hands and they won't even bother to anything about the outcome of this! A Christmas gift for all the rich and a screwing the rest of America.

(31,112 posts)his lawyers could be heard yelling at each other.
No letter of exoneration given...
This might be why trump signed bill in no frills and quickly, afraid to take questions plus sign it before you are indicted?
Could be.

(34,456 posts)plan on the part of the FBI or the Dems, that the public has not yet been informed about; or (b) the MoveOn.org's organizing emergency protest rallies if Mueller is fired. Maybe someone who caught all of Ari's show has more info; unfortunately, I don't.

(6,363 posts)I'm sure he's aware of all the planned response protests and he's going to use the holiday to depress the participation.
If we get into the new year without a move, sessions or rosenstein gets replaced and the new guy in town leaves mueller in place but quietly pours sugar in his gas tank at every turn. In the workplace, it's akin to constructive dismissal...when you don't fire someone but squeeze them to the point of quitting. I don't expect mueller would ever quit but he'll get squeezed.

I'm hoping.
Maybe I'm just being too optimistic, but I'm still hoping.

(99,710 posts)The special counsel can only be fired for cause:
Section 600.7 has two provisions on redressing misconduct by special counsel. Section 600.7(c) addresses substantive and procedural issues regarding discipline. First, substantively, regarding the norms of conduct, Special Counsel and staff shall be subject to disciplinary action for misconduct and breach of ethical duties under the same standards and to the same extent as are other employees of the Department of Justice. Inquiries into disciplinary matters shall be handled by the appropriate offices of the Department, with the caveat that those inquiries be upon the approval of the Attorney General.

The consensus is the special counsel can only be fired for cause. I have seen some gadfly attorneys like John Yoo argue Trump can go ahead and fire Mueller for whatever reason. What a pandora's box he would be opening. If he fires Mueller over Christmas world markets will tank when they reopen on Tuesday. The good economy is the only thing between a Trump approval rating of thirty five percent and a Trump approval rating in the high teens or twenties.

(32,641 posts)... may never be approved by Congress. Trump can't assume that any appointment will automatically be approved. Many of them have been rejected just in the last couple of weeks. This means he would have nobody in charge at Dept. of Justice. How could he take that chance?
There are many people in Congress (including Repukes) who are not going along with this. Trump is not getting a blank check, especially if he tries to fire Mueller or Rosenstein. Let's hope it's enough to keep this investigation going.

(99,710 posts)The only way I can see him firing Mueller is if he's certain Mueller will indict him or a member of his crime family.
