(38,517 posts)He was just paraphrasing a quote he probably never heard. He just believes the same thing.

(15,649 posts)6 weeks ago and drove through whole neighborhoods where nearly every home had that poster stapled to their door, siding or as a lawn-sign in front of the house. It was inspiring to say the least.
I need to get one!

(54,436 posts)There are enough quotes out there that were really said by the person they are attributed to without using one that was put into someone's mouth for political convenience. Leave that to the Republicans. They have way more experience at it anyway.
Next thing you know, you'll be telling us there's no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy really didn't leave that quarter under my pillow for that tooth lost so long ago or Levi Jeans aren't made in America. What is it with some folks who feel compelled to comment on such a minor thing? If I had said Let them eat brioche. - would it really have diminished the impact of the statement?

(54,436 posts)Republicans love making phony attributions and quoting quotes that never were. I thought we tried to be a little closer to the truth when trying to make our points. Oh, excuse me, I meant "point's."

Unfortunately, just like in France, we are seeing the bourgeoisie seize political power without a plan afterwards.
The new wealthy convinced the poor to overthrow their government, however, there was a complete collapse of the regional power base and the country went to complete shit for a century. We are seeing the GOPers do the same thing. Take political power and turn the infrastructure to shit.

(54,436 posts)"Die Revoultion frisst ihre eigene Kinder." It means "the revolution eats its own children." It is taken from Georg Büchner's "Dantons Tod (the death of Danton)," written in 1835, and is a short version of "Ich weiß wohl, die Revolution iſt wie Saturn, ſie frißt ihre eigenen Kinder (I know--the revolution is like Saturn, it eats its own children)." It is attributed to the last words of French revolutionary Pierre Vergniaud just before he was executed in October, 1793.
I find the Republicans to be even worse in their intentions than their French predecessors, though the similarities are indeed there, as you pointed out. But our Republicans, after taking power, won't even bother to actively turn our infrastructure to shit. They'll (figuratively or literally) just say "gotta go, see ya!" and let the infrastructure fall apart. "Après nous, le deluge," so to speak. They aren't doing this out of revenge for some perceived transgression. They are doing it because they can, and couldn't give a rat's ass about the rest of the nation.

(14,568 posts)Nothing about what we have seen the last three decades provides any evidence that they will have a "gotta go, see ya!" moment.
They just keep getting meaner, nastier, more vicious.
They are NOT going to just walk away from power.
Not sure how it all ends - we MIGHT have a moment in 2018 and 2020 where we stand up to them, but what was soi sobering about 2006 and 2008, was 2010, that their anger and irrationality is greater than our reason and consciousness.
And, somehow in less than a decade they managed drag this country from a DEFCON 3 clusterscrew to a DEFCON 2, and teetering on a DEFCON 1, clusterscrew.

(54,436 posts)Moving Halliburton's world HQ to Dubai, and maintaining his house on Kish (Iranian version of Hong Kong), which, though its official registration has been changed from Cheney's name to Halliburton's name, remains Cheney's little hideaway.
No, they won't walk away from power. However, they WILL run from a population fed up with their abuse of it. There's ALWAYS a breaking point.

(135,859 posts)"You all just got a lot richer," Trump said Friday at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, two friends at a table near the president told CBS News.
Late last week, Trump signed the sweeping Republican tax bill into law, marking his first major legislative accomplishment since winning the White House.
He spoke at length during the signing, thanking Republicans in Congress for getting the legislation to his desk and predicting it would help the economy.
