was believing rationality would change minds, or even affect in the least, conservatives.
Not science. Not facts. Pres Obama, as well. What we are up against is entrenched, even brainwashed, reptile-brain thought patterns. We need to recalibrate and come at this from a different direction. What would that be? Motivate voter turnout; overcome with our known greater numbers; be more strategic and more inclusive.
They cheat. We need to overwhelm them with the power of good.

(47,579 posts)there's got to be a baseline of reality. WE know there is, just impossible to convince them. I mean, I think they DO know; it's just in their cynicism and power grab they manipulate fear, greed, to their ends.
Illustration: Roy Moore's complaint of voter fraud in AL today. A tipping point cometh...if there is any hope for humanity.

(37,428 posts)Facts are what we have to support our GOTV. We could invent talking points, but really all we can do is to talk to potential voters, and try to persuade them to get behind an agenda that benefits the many.

(4,407 posts)The Russians have been using it for decades to make disinformation believable to the masses. They understand that many people allow emotions to override rationality, especially when they mix in fear and victim-hood. These Republicans are learning from, and got the assistance of, truly talented propagandists who have been doing this for decades in Russia and the Soviet Union before.
I don't advocate using fear, racism, false patriotism or any of the Republican hooks, but I do think we need to appeal better to emotions. Good emotions can work to influence as do bad ones. We need to work on a Democratic image...WE need a couple of strongly appealing broad issues to pound on. That is why Sanders is the most popular politician in America right now. If we can't embrace him, we could at least learn from him. We had been very successful with things like the "New Deal" and the "Great Society." But what are we now? "Not Trump" might work for a while, but it will have a short shelf life.

(708 posts)We can't anyway. We need to get out the vote! Mobilizing voters will overall bend in our favor.
