The orange thing will take credit for the low ratings no doubt.....

(27,843 posts)if the NFL hadn't so consistently screwed the Lions.
This kind of ticks me off, because now I won't get to see the Lions play. Boo.

I knew in July Miami wouldn't win their division (it's been 9 years of nothing but Pats) and so what's the point of even watching a single game?

(2,237 posts)I'm not a football fan (I hate it), but I'm a big e-sports fan, and e-sports tends to have this same issue in International tournaments. Teams from South Korea (where e-sports are a bigger thing, hence they can draw in better players) are almost always heavily favored, North American teams are often considered a joke, even the best North American teams tend to struggle against the weakest European and Korea teams to qualify.

(27,843 posts)Even if it doesn't have implications, I'd like to see my team play, and, being that I'm in Seattle, they won't show it now.

(495 posts)No consistent running game. Could not convert on 3rd and short. And while TE Eric Ebron made a strong finish at the end of the season, he was a liability for a while.
I hope they can turn it around next year. But the Lions themselves were more at fault than the refs.

(60,536 posts)The NFL has canceled the final Sunday night football game of the season. Don't worry, no one was going to watch anyway.
Next Sunday's game had two disadvantages: The games all had a likelihood of being dull by the time Sunday night rolled around. And this coming Sunday is New Year's Eve, a day when historically few Americans watch television.
The last time the NFL held a Sunday night football game on New Year's Eve was in 2006, when the Chicago Bears hosted the Green Bay Packers. It was expected to be quarterback Brett Favre's last game with the Packers (and widely expected to be his last game ever). Still, only 13.4 million people watched that game, about a quarter fewer than the average Sunday Night Football game that season.
Since the last Sunday night football game also happens to be the final game of the season, the NFL tries to schedule a game that will definitely have playoff implications for one or both of the teams playing. (A team that already made the playoffs might sit their starters, leading to an exceptionally boring game.)

(7,429 posts)All of the games at 430p have playoff implications. It's cool that everyone will be watching the scoreboard at that time instead of waiting until midnight

(495 posts)It has nothing to do with the fact that it would be a game with no playoff implications on New Year's Eve, meaning low ratings. It's fake news to believe anything else.

(1,184 posts)With an 8:30 p.m. game, going past midnight is not out of the question--NO ONE would be watching during that time. And presumably, NBC will want to have some Times Square coverage.

(31,261 posts)The Sunday night games that had good matchups did well. I hope the NFL keep it for next season, but allow schedule flexibility so that a Pittsburg-New England game can be Sunday night instead of opposite say LA Rams-Seattle - both game were compelling this year and it was clear that they should not have been scheduled during the same time slot.

(33,432 posts)That happened to me - the Sounders moved the start up an hour. Who checks to make sure the time on the ticket is still valid? Only saw 45 minutes.
If you show up at 8:30 pm for the NFL, though, you'll miss the entire game.
