(54,770 posts)lax gun laws - and other right wing crud - probably won't allow guns inside.

(17,064 posts)No guns in the "convention zone" immediately outside. Guns are permitted in the "safe zone", which is the general downtown area, however rope, water pistols, spray paint and other aerosols, etc, are not. The logic of this escapes me.
And btw, the sailing club located a mile away at the mouth of the river, has been ordered not to hold their weekly sailboat race out in the bay. Maybe they think OWS is going to commandeer a bunch of small sailboats and sail upriver to storm the Bastille. Republican logic, I guess... or they got ahold of a Gasparilla Invasion video.
The high-end resturants and strip clubs are anticipating a booming business. Small businesses think business will be hurt by limited access and locals staying the hell away. We all just roll our eyes and cant wait for it to be over.

(2,952 posts)That's one group of tourists the west coast(of Florida) can keep....but hey, You're invited to get out of town for a few days!

(13,616 posts)I half expect someone like Bubba the Love Sponge (our local right wing DJ that often invited Tucker Carlson on) to boycott Joe Redner's because Joe is helping fund OWS. He even bought them a private park, which means the powers that be are burning midnight oil to figure out how to kick out OWS while they are guests on private land. As much as I would rather OWS be in downtown, I know that the Nazis down here are itching for a fight.
As far as the "logic" it is simple for them, the lone wolf types the GOP likes tend to hide their guns, while protestors in costumes are easy to grab and throw into jail. As far as Boats, well, I think it is more to try and keep crowds from assaulting Bayshore Boulevard. For those not in Tampa, Bayshore is a street with Historic mansions rival anywhere in the South, all by the bay on the world's largest sidewalk, which means of course that any Tampa festival comes, and said people usually have their lawns full of puke and fecal matter left by the good ol boys. It is not a matter of rich people versus drunks, more like old rich locals, versus richer corporate bastards trying to avoid buying port a potty's, yet sell a million bucks of beer.
As far as businesses, let's face it, Tampa does NOT care about local merchants; they will sell their soul to a corporate chain and do anything to drive an old restaurant out of town, that's why it is hard to buy a real Cuban Sandwich in town anymore. Yes, the Bern's steak House (world's largest collection of wine), the Columbia, all the rich places may do well, although a lot of said places will get a rude awakening in the form of rubber checks, lawsuits, and getting shut out by catered food. These are Republicans, after all, Florida is just the ashtray for their cigars.
And of course, let's not forget that Ron Paul is having his own Tea party shindig, with the express purpose of trying to force a brokered convention. Now, I am not too focued on that, because even if their is a brokered one, hell, even if Mitt goes to jail, the powers that be (including Red China via Sheldon Addelson) will just pour as much money down the toilet as needed, because they know that the masses can be stupid. However, I worry that if there is mayhem, Tampa may become ground zero for mayhem. Sorry to say, it is NOT the GOPigs I worry about, if they fight their civil war in Tampa, none could stop them, but I worry about those who will be left paying the bill, and sweeping the brooms afterword.

(8,244 posts)Law enforcement should be able to track the senders down from the email addresses and IP addresses, getting a subpoena or warrant from a judge to get the info from the ISPs and email hosts.
The guy who said his email was hacked... is that just the end of that investigation?
The police know about it now so there is no excuse not to investigate.

(13,616 posts)The cops are not going to take guns away from some white person that can afford a lawyer. Ever since Zimmerman became a local hero, the Florida gun lobby has made sure that every NRA member is ready to fight and or lawyer up, which means that touching people's guns is like catching a hot potato.
