Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAt what point does the Senate recognize that Donald Trump is dangerously unstable?
Do they have to see the mushroom cloud before they believe?
Even the Democrats debate about whether or not he should be impeached? Of course, he should be impeached! Or whatever they need to do to get him out of office.
Their attitude is similar to the airlines just before the 9/11 bombing of the WTC. We'll just continue to float along until something catastrophic happens...
They don't even have the guts to speak up about it! Their lips are sealed.

(6,083 posts)Whatever depraved things he might do, they're right there with him. Appealing to their better instincts is a waste of time.

(63,221 posts)It's all about immediate gratification for them and they never consider the long-term repercussions of their actions. "As long as we make money NOW, to hell with the environment, the future of the economy, the lives of our children and grandchildren, etc." Basically, they are immature and even infantile in their need to have it all and have it now. It is just extreme selfishness and Trump is the ultimate embodiment of this.

(7,754 posts)are now willing to support Trump and shut down the FBI and CIA if that's what it takes to cover up their participation in this traitorous collaboration. The RNC received a lot of money from the Oligarchs and they must have spread it around. Now those cads are scared it will be discovered they took money too. Either that or Trump and the Kremlin have some juicy tape on many of them. They are not protecting him, they are covering their own collective bums.

(52,308 posts)that's not the question.
the question is at what point do republican voters (aka the foxnews audience) believe we're better off replacing him.
until then, republicans basically have no real choice but to fall in line. their party is designed that way.
when democrats control the senate, the senate will behave rather differently toward donnie, but republicans still won't.

They just don't fucking care.
Some on DU and elsewhere seem to be confused and think that we are still a functioning Democratic Republic. We're NOT.
We're prisoners of the "deplorables".
Our media have so normalized the abnormal, that I have serious doubts our way of life will survive.
They would drag this country happily through the gates of hell to keep their nefarious power. They know that they are finished. They either hang together with "Orange Shit-Sack", or they will "hang with him". There is no other option. Their only chance to survive is to destroy "us". There is no turning back from here. There is no "healing". There is no chance for reflection and thought.
They have ONE option. Either they win and crush us, or they are finished as a power in this country. They have no "back-up" plan.
The ReTrumplicans (No matter how bad it gets) will NEVER act against Donnie Shit for Brains.
We just need to make sure they don't take the rest of us down with them.

(25,881 posts)understand that he's unstable, but don't think dangerously so. Plus, they think they can control him.
I'm referring to the Republican Senators, of course. And since they still hold the majority, the Dems don't count.

(5,210 posts)I get -- but may not agree with -- the stance some of them have adopted that basically impeachment is out of the question, though maybe if Mueller finds something, but we'll have to see.
What I don't get is their refusal or inability or feigned blindness on this man as POTUS. It's not that we dislike him and are therefore inappropriately calling for impeachment. It's that he's ill and destroying the government, our worldwide reputation and standing, and anything else he can get his grubby, kleptocratic, kakistocratic, authoritarian hands on.
He commits impeachable offenses DAILY. They have NO BUSINESS dismissing the whole idea of impeachment "unless" Robert Mueller comes up with something. Ye gods, the circumstantial evidence alone on #TrumpRussia is overwhelming, but there's so much more he does that's just wrong, often illegal and/or unConstutitional, and should be addressed by them daily.
To be clear: I'm okay (sorta) if most of them don't want to start calling for impeachment, or hawking it, or running on it. I am NOT okay with their total dismissal of the idea when asked, depending on Mueller.
And if Democrats don't plan to run AGAINST TRUMP and his destructive agenda in 2018, at least in part, they will be seen as part of the problem.
As as for their slogan, "A better deal," they better think twice about that too. People don't want a DEAL, they want effective and dare I say muscular? representation in Congress.

(5,210 posts)I think the problem is that they think they tend to think POLITICALLY (and come up with gimmicks) when in reality they need to get out of their bubble and go talk to people, maybe find out what people want.
If they did that, they'd find out people want what Democrats have always delivered: all the stuff we have and are about to lose (or already have lost). Things like the 40 hour work week, clean water and air, higher minimum wages, social security and medicare and medicaid, consumer protection, on and on and on. They'd find people want protection from this insane monster in the White House.
