Reuters/Kevin Lamarque
President Trumps lawyers have sent a cease-and-desist letter to journalist Michael Wolff and book publisher Henry Holt, demanding that they halt the Jan. 9 publication of Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, which has already made waves following the release of two excerpts in major publications. Trump is also asking for an apology for defamatory statements made in the excerpts. We are investigating numerous false and/or baseless statements that you have made about Mr. Trump, Trumps lawyer, Charles Harder, reportedly wrote to Wolff. The apparently lengthy letter accuses Wolff of actual malice and declares that Trumps team is looking into several legal avenues, including possible defamation of Trump and his family and invasion of privacy. Sections of the book reveal former top strategist Steve Bannon criticizing Trump campaign officials and family members, and it has prompted a political firestormand personal attacks by Trump himself aimed at Bannon. Trump has also sent a cease-and-desist to Bannon through his legal team.

Whatever happened to all of that unbelieveable stuff his birther investigators had discovered about Obama?

(16,786 posts)To all that is going on. This book is just the start of the fall of the Trump Family dynasty. Trying to suppress the release of this book are the actions of a Dictator. Indictments by Mueller will surely create even more of a firestorm when the shit really hits the fan.

(2,993 posts)The appointment of Robert Mueller was the start of the fall. This book is, nevertheless, a significant highlight of the unravelling.

(146,317 posts)It will, however, ensure that the book sells even better. Publishers routinely ignore such nonsense. The First Amendment is a powerful thing, and they know it. The author, apparently, has recordings of much of what is included in the book. Now, some of those things might well be incorrect, but that's no bar to publication.
Proving "actual malice" is a very, very difficult thing to do.
If I were thinking about buying that book, I would confidently place an order on Amazon and expect on-time delivery.

(2,064 posts)It will cause the book to sell better and may make the taped interviews public during discovery, if Trump is dumb enough to pursue this.

Trump is a public figure.
Good luck with your lawsuits, numb nuts.
