Pro Tip: How to Avoid Disappointment and Ensure Happiness

In politics and in daily life, there is one proven way to help yourself to avoid being disappointed and ensure happiness, at least some of the time. It's a simple thing, but most people are unaware of it:

Always expect the worst from people. Expect them to be assholes, right-wing morons, and potential dangers to you. With that expectation, when they turn out to be just that, you will not be disappointed. On the other hand, when many people turn out to be reasonable, progressive and helpful, rather than harmful, you are sure to be happy that you are wrong sometimes.

If I did that, I'd dread human interaction so much that I'd rarely leave the house or use a phone. Gidney N Cloyd Jan 2018 #4
Many people do just that, actually. MineralMan Jan 2018 #5

Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed.
Is that marital advice as well?

She works with abused spouses. She can just tell them not to expect anything and when they don't get beat, the can be pleasantly surprised. I'll be popular with the staff too. I can just not expect them to do their jobs, and when they do, I can be pleasantly surprised. You might wanna mention this to the BLM folks as well so that when they don't get shot by the police, they can be pleasantly surprised.
