"Governor O'Malley is not really worthy of responding to," Christie told a reporter from NorthJersey.com after the show. "I'll tell you the truth: He's not that smart. He's not that good. But he's flippant, so I give him credit for that."
O'Malley had compared Christie to comedian Don Rickles on-air, and not in a good way: "Chris Christie's brand of sort of 'Don Rickles' leadership is unusual. The bombast and all of that stuff is entertaining, but it doesn't make for good governance."
What Christie characterizes as flippant, others might call TV-glib, in a good way.
On July 8, he squared off with Bobby Jindal on ABC's "This Week." The Louisiana governor said America was "going the way of Europe" thanks to what he characterized as the president's failed economic policies.
"You want to talk about going the way of Europe?" O'Malley fired back. "What went the way of Europe were the Swiss bank accounts and American dollars that Mitt Romney stuffed in that offshore Swiss bank account, jobs that he facilitated companies in moving offshore out of places like Ohio, out of Pennsylvania and Maryland."
That's the kind of biting TV retort that led Politico on July 14 to describe O'Malley as "perhaps the sharpest-tongued, most enthusiastic and aggressive advocate for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign."

(7,113 posts)O'Malley isn't that smart, Christie? He's smart enough to figure out how to have his state's schools outrank yours year after year.

(59,504 posts)unemployment this month to 9.6%.
In the past, NJ seemed to be at around the same level as comparable states - such as MA, which is at 6.0%. Maybe it was not so smart to cancel the largest infrastructure project in the nation - the badly needed increased capacity for rail into NYC.
Not to mention, O'Malley looks pleasant and nice while he uses wit to attack Romney. Not like the bully from NJ.

(59,504 posts)competence!
I think you should post this several weeks before the convention and encourage people to use it as the basis of letters to the editor right before and after the Christie speech. Make Romney, who did a lackluster job in Massachusetts OWN the mess Christie did in NJ.

I usually feel bad for people so overweight but I'm having a hard time summoning much sympathy for this guy.

My money is on O'Malley for the win, he's smart and knows what he's talking about. Christie is an ignorant bully.

(59,504 posts)Christie has been whining that Springsteen won't do anything with him for NJ. (He also had the lack of sense to publicly ask him to play at his inaugural ball - and was turned down - even though he had attended 130 some shows.)
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)he bullies women and the elderly and snarls at people on the street who question his policies or ask him questions that he (understandably) doesn't want to hear, much less to answer...then he has to have an aid gently walk him away before making himself look uglier...

(95,337 posts)I was at the Springsteen show in Philly where Chris Christie was in attendance. In fact Christie sat about 10 rows ahead of us and I got stuck with some Christie Goon standing right behind me the entire show (I was sitting on an end seat where there were rows behind us but no seats behind my row.)
I'm sure Bruce was very aware that Christie was in the audience, he really was right there by the front left corner of the stage. But not only did Springsteen not mention Christie's name even once but many times, before he would sing a song, Bruce would talk about the plight of the working class and how we have to do more to help them.
Christie is all proud about the fact that they opened another Casino in Atlantic City and he wants Bruce to play at the grand opening over labor day weekend. NJ doesn't need another Casino - they have plenty of them and honestly, the industry is hurting because gambling is now allowed in neighboring states of DE, NJ and PA. I don't have an issue with gambling, but I've seen gambling addiction up close and it's not pretty. A better way of spending that money would have been to build the new tunnel between NYC and NJ so that traffic wouldn't be so bad between the 2 states.
Christie will probably do the same thing he did with the inauguration - he'll hire some 2nd rate Springsteen tribute band to play at his event. Maybe he can get a 2nd rate Bon Jovi band to open the show since Bon Jovi wouldn't do anything for Christie either!

(20,166 posts)Ralph yelled at his friend Norton (Art Carney) a lot, too, but I think you're right that he reserved the "one of these days" line for his wife Alice.
But he did alternate between threatening to hit her in the kisser and send her to moon.
I always thought it was an odd show when I was a kid. Alice always seemed so miserable all the time.

(20,450 posts)Job growth, up. Poverty down. Violent crimes, down. Economy? Great, compared to Jersey.
Maryland? Top 5 in education. Prince George's County is #1 in terms of per capita income among black Americans. Montgomery County where I live is #1 or #2 in terms of per capita income, school attainment and attrition.
Christie can't say much about Jersey. While his fat ass is traveling all over the country for Robme, his state is suffering. And his job approval is also suffering. Shouldn't he be more concerned about his own budget deficit and all of state's problems?
