(25,894 posts)Trump also had such zero experience, but a lot of people were bamboozled by the "successful business man" bullshit.

(2,787 posts)with the reactionary Michael Moore logic which suggest sense the right wing had Reagan and Trump that we should nominate our own celebrity. No thanks!

(89,262 posts)but i don't think she will run. i don't think she has enough interest to get personally involved in politics . and she already has a lot of influence outside of poliitics .

(3,166 posts)of support for Oprah running for president until after this speech
and how can you compare Obama to Oprah (no offense Oprah), Obama's entire trajectory was in Public Service
Oprah is a self made women whose greatest attribute to the masses is her celebrity
JI7
(89,262 posts)just like Obama did even though it was the DNC Speech which started the talk of him as President.
and yes, his was in public service and particularly elected office which made him more likely to run.
but she does have many accomplishments other than just the speech.

(17,135 posts)A mega-wonk of policy, politics, and economics. Someone who knows the gears and bearings, and can repair the destruction the republicans and their tsars have wrought.
This is why I'm not resistant to having an old hand that knows the workings of our government in charge.

(8,733 posts)Its insulting that a single member of this board would give any serious consideration to this nonsense.
A rich celebrity is the LAST FUCKING THING the Democrats need to nominate for POTUS.
We are getting brutally ripped inside out by the orange vomit monster and the last thing Democrats should do, if they ever want to be taken seriously, is even consider nominating a rich, however nice, celebrity to ANY office.
Are you people listening to yourselves? Absolutely ridiculous!

(108,990 posts)Oprah has decades of experience working to EMPOWER women and minorities. That's a lot more than just giving a good speech.

(3,166 posts)where were all those people clamoring for her to run? sure there were a few, but I didn't see anything on this board urging it
maybe I missed it, seriously

If our worthless asses are to be saved, then by God, let it be black women who do the saving. Too bad it couldnt be Audre Lorde. Amen and amen.

(40,416 posts)She's wealthy beyond belief, but what does she do with it?
She supports all sorts of quack medical therapies. For Christ sakes, she supports that lunatic and utter charlatan, John of God. That alone should be disqualifying!
Then there's Dr. Phil -- "I was the worst marriage counselor on the planet." So what does he do for Oprah? Fucking marriage counseling!!!
And don't get me started about Dr. Oz, who doesn't care which quack therapies he promotes.
We dont need another fucking idiot in the White House!
Just no on Oprah! I dont want her anywhere near government, let alone my TV.

(108,990 posts)Everything she's accomplished, including a net worth as high as DT's, has come through her own brains and determination. But she has NEVER forgotten what she went to get where she is now, or the ordinary people who are still struggling.
DT is a phony -- a rich man who'd have made more money if he'd just invested his inheritance in the stock market.
She's the real thing. An American success story who inspires millions.

(40,416 posts)She supports quack medicine. She knows nothing about science. She supports lunatics like John of God, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz.
That means I must oppose her politically with every fiber of my body.
there is celebrity worshiping from all kinds

(102,351 posts)to run. AND, while science is not her area of expertise, she is NOT anti-science. She hosted some of the foremost in medicine and science over the years, though again, I agree she also had her share of quacks.

(37,748 posts)No doubt, policy is unimportant when contrasted to fad and popularity to a dogmatic mind. I can certainly see why you'd ignore that aspect.
She'd be far down on my list of potential candidates, but I don't pretend to have enough absolute knowledge to call her an idiot, no doubt-- many others possess that pretense. In quantity. Along with the hyperbole.
Good on ya; I'm certain you'll allege it's not pretense on your par though...

(40,416 posts)You will find Oprah's fawning video. Then you'll see his psychic surgery, and his megachurch scam. Oprah is an ignorant buffoon in her support.
Then, there's Jenny McCarthy, who has a body count with her anti-vaccination idiocy. Oprah supports her, too.
That's pretty much the definition of idiocy.
She has done some good but shes had a lot of loonies on her show.

(9,966 posts)...how she gives back some of the wealth. You can still be very wealthy and improve those less fortunate. She cares about people. I also admired that speech - especially thinking of girls and young women seeing Oprah and being inspired. That's a very good thing. But as President of the US.... NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
