He couldn't win in his home county last time, no way he can win statewide. If he was running for Trent Franks' seat he probably could, but not statewide. I don't think he wins the primary.

the pResidency? Farking anything can happen in Murica nowadays.

The real answer is who knows? I was as shocked as anyone that Senator Jones won in my state. Maybe Arizona will have even more common sense than Alabama.

i think Phoenix mostly leans democratic though .

there might be some demographic changes going on though and maybe more hispanics and other minorites getting involved since Arpaio did lose last time and Clinton did better than most democrats have been doing.

If he was younger and had tons of $$$$$ behind him to buy the race, he would have a better chance at being the nominee. No way he could win unless the Democratic Party nominates someone truly horrendous.

Hillary lost by just 3.5 percentage points here while dump won Alabama by 28 points.

Kyrsten Sinema is going to beat either Ward or Arpaio. She led Ward by seven points in the last poll.

Kelli Ward is as crazy as he is. They may split the crazy vote and Rep. Martha McSally, who is a hardline conservative, without their level of nuttiness (and she's a retired Air Force combat pilot) could grab the nomination.

Is it likely - I don't think so.

South Florida had their own version of Joe Arpaio - Nick Navarro. He was popular for a long time as Broward Sherriff, invested in military-type gear, a private jet, and a branch office in Colombia as part of the war on drugs. The people of Broward eventually grew tired of his schtick. I get the feeling that a good number of Arizonans are over Arpaio at this point.

I think dog love crosses Party lines:

Arpaio's SWAT team once conducted a raid on a house expecting to find a weapons cache, only to have gotten the wrong house. They burned the house down in the process and forced the family's dog, which was trying to escape, back into the house to be burned alive. Arpaio laughed at the house owner's tears for their dog.

If it is an immigrant's dog, deplorable's would care less. They would probably applaud Arpaio.

Honestly, when I saw "dog story", I immediately thought of bestiality.

One look at the type of people who make up the Arizona state legislature, and you'll see that it's entirely possible. Look at who is their governor, and who was their previous governor, as well.

He lost to Democrat Paul Penzone by nearly 13 points in a county that Trump carried by about three points and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) won by more than 15 in 2012. In other words, Arpaio did 18 points worse than Trump and 28 points worse than McCain.

In fact, he got a lower percentage of the vote than Hillary Clinton, despite being a 24-year incumbent — and even got fewer actual votes.

Of course he couldn’t. There’s no way in hell he could win against a smarter, far more experienced candidate. And the American people are smarter than that, for Christ’s sake. You’d have to be a complete moron to actually vote for that sleazebag, TV-phony “rich” guy. Good night honey, don’t worry, get some sleep...

Now, I don’t think Joe Fucking Arpaio has a dog’s chance in hell of winning anything. Which is exactly why, if I were an Arizonan (all respect, your state is beautiful, Tucson and Flagstaff are big favorites), I’d start cranking like you’re under assault. And fight like you could lose. Sorry I’m in California and can’t be on the ground with you. As crass as it is to say in public, I want you to know that I will help your Democratic candidates financially as best I can. My pledge to you.
