Jeff Bezos has made 5 billion in the past 6 weeks

I've traditionally not been the guy to try and shame people over their income, but my god, on Nov 25 there were reports that he'd crossed 100 billion. Today he's the richest man ever at 105.1 billion. Think about that, he's almost made a billion dollars a week the past month and a half. I'm sure Amazon has really well paying jobs for all of their workers again, with health insurance, etc. so no big deal <sarcasm>

1. A billion here, a billion there and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

It's hard to wrap your brain around. If I ever came into loot like that I'd be giving it away as fast as it came in. Lots of hungry people in this world.

Since its at the end of the year, I'm guessing he got an enormous amount in dividends and capital gains payouts, which if that is the case the top rate on those is 20%, or $1 billion if it was all from capital gains.

so he would not have any tax liability on that until he sells the stock.

of course he's also drawing salary and bonus and no doubt has other taxable income, and maybe he is selling a bit of amazon stock here and there, so he'd have to pay tax on that. but that's not the 5 billion we're talking about.
