Sometimes the history teacher goes by the name "coach", and will all genuine respect to all the coaches out there, if they didn't major in history in college, and if their honest passion is their sport, they simply won't be good history teachers.

It likewise doesn't help that even the best of our news media rarely offers any kind of historical perspective on anything they report.

Most people haven't a clue that any history of any kind could matter, other than perhaps who was the greatest quarterback of all time.
