When they say something like most people support him, he's the best president, he's doing great, etc, I ask them "Then why is he having so many problems filling departmental staff positions? Why so much turnover in the WH, itself? Why is a green, inexperienced undergrad running national drug policy? (https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/meet-the-24-year-old-trump-campaign-worker-appointed-to-help-lead-the-governments-drug-policy-office/2018/01/13/abdada34-f64e-11e7-91af-31ac729add94_story.html)
One tried blaming it on the deep state sabotaging things (uhhhh how?)
Always met with *crickets*

or
"It's not a big deal".
When you remind them Trump said, "I know the best people.....". you get crickets, too.

(7,947 posts)His whole Apprentice schtick was supposed to be about finding good employees. And yet he can't fill positions, and has several times given important jobs to completely inexperienced people, and also has had people doing basically nothing for $175k a year (Omarosa Manigault-- others in the White House said they literally didn't know what she was supposed to be doing).
OF course, facts aren't important to Trump fans, and they will say, "That's not true!"
Gosh, remember when Obama appointed Stephen Chu, Nobel Prize in Physics, to the Dep. of Energy?
Trump appointed some former Texas governor who didn't even know what the energy dept did.
To Trump fans, so insecure about their own intelligence (justifiably), they want to have stupid people in there. Some actual scientist would make them feel too inferior. Because... as with Trump... it's all about themselves. Insecure narcissists are really awful at making smart decisions.

(31,205 posts)that the unfilled positions are "fat" and not really needed....making government smaller.

(17,984 posts)and being so toxic no one dare come near. I think most of the unfilled positions are a result of the latter.

(17,635 posts)...'so you DO support an admitted sexual predator'?...I treat Trumpers with pity or like a small ragmuffin child who simply knows no better and would benefit from my wisdom....providing I wish to share it with them.

(2,415 posts)About the porn star stuff, and both of them brought up that Clinton raped Juanita B. But didn't report it immediately because she was scared. I told them that I believed trump when he said that he was the worst womanizer on the Howard Stern show. Then we went to work answering phones. I couldn't come up with a better reply to their whataboutism.

(53 posts)it"s his agenda.
Clearly he is planning to take advatage the huge number of federal job vacancies to justify contracting outside recruiting and staffing agencies to manage, screen and approve applicants.
Imagine the long term effect. Some private company will receive a sweet contract deal from Trump and the republican party. Certainly the screening process would be fair and without discrimination, right.
Short term, we all get caught up in another hailstorm of headline while Trump and republicans complete privatize federal jobs. If this is allowed it , you can expect to see fewer democrats and progressive filling federal jobs.
It is really dangerous to rely on the image of Trump as incompetents or insane. Because no matter how true it is, it does stop him from getting what he wants. What good is it to attack his charactor if his agenda advances unchallenged.
