...and separate it from the budget bill.
But, unfortunately, Republicans do not want to do that. They want to use it as a political hammer on the Democrats. They do not care if the government shuts down. They are not fans of "government". And this time, they feel they are holding the winning hand.
If Mitch McConnell did not have his lips super-glued to Donald Trump's butt, the Senate could negotiate and come up with a solution. However, so long as Donald Trump is involved in this process of "legislating", it will be a disaster.
Donald Trump is a complete control freak. He wants to be in charge of the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch of government. He wants to control them all. Mitch McConnell is doing his best to accommodate him.
The Senate needs to show some independence from the Executive Branch.

Don't pull a Collins and believe a promise of future action. Vote DACA first, then dems can talk budget.

(36,516 posts)No more combining legislation to finagle votes. What would happen? Seems to me it would be more efficient. Also, the People would see where each rep stands on every issue. No more, "Well I voted yes/no on this issue because of this & that addition to the bill." The day's docket would be posted, & each issue voted on, one after another. Is there a reason why they don't do this?
