The good news is that opposition to Trump and reactionary Republicans is inspiring Democrats around the country to action.
The bad news might be that this will end up being self-defeating if we are not careful.
In my district, we have seven Democrats dancing around trying to unseat the Republican congresscritter.
Seven.
Town and county committees are distressed over just how to handle this. Some of the weaker ones might be convinced to back off, but it looks like we're in for a primary, or two. Last time we had a very destructive primary between two good candidates who each had strong backing in some quarters, but we ended up losing the big race.
Every new term a Congresscritter gets adds power-- they learn more each time how to please the voters and keep the seat. Local issues tend to be what locals vote for, and we have a bunch of them here. Plum Island, a large Hispanic population, coasts on the Atlantic and Long island Sound, the health of Peconic Bay, what to do with Grumman's old Calverton site, NY state taxes... He gets us funding for some good stuff and says the right things about other stuff, but can't or won't fight the forces screwing us.
So, it isn't easy to get rid of him, and infighting among our own does not help. I imagine this is a common problem around the country.

(129,197 posts)in many locations as so many GOP seats went uncontested for so long. So this may end up being a short term PITA but hopefully it still signals willingness to engage and get a good field of candidates after giving up in the past. The important thing would be for the party to rally around whoever makes it through the process at the end.
The GOP went through similar in 2010 where the looniest of the loons ousted long-time GOP incumbents and then they went on to solidify their elected positions.
