I'm going to watch the State of the Union tonight.

I see that many of you plan to boycott the speech. You do realize that, unless you are actually a Nielsen family, your television watching habits will not affect Trump's ratings. You also realize that, unless you are a member of Congress, no one will even notice your presence or absence in the House chamber this evening. But go right ahead and boycott, if it makes you feel good.

I'm going to watch, because this is my country and this is my life. On a personal note, I have stage IV endometrial cancer. I pay nearly $17,000 a year for insurance and I will reach my $4,750 deductible for 2018 in about two weeks. This president and his Republican cronies are trying to take away my access to health insurance. Without that insurance and the treatment it pays for, I will be dead by the end of the year. With it, I have the possibility of surviving for many years.

So, go right ahead and boycott the speech. Protect your tender ears and tender sensibilities. I'll watch for you, and keep standing up against these traitors for as long as I am able.

Will do.

I will read the transcript. I'll be done with it before you are done watching. Why such passive-aggressiveness? This man is literally hurting people. Wait. Is this passive-aggressive or just being a.........?

As in listen to it on the radio (npr) or watch with the sound muted and CC on.

I'm not boycotting, just not watching. I will read an annotated transcript after it is over. I don't understand how not watching has anything to do with not fighting him and his cronies.

I don't agree with your characterization of all who don't watch.

I'm not watching because I can't stand the sight or sound of Donald Trump. If I want to know what he says I can and probably will read a transcript later, so it's not a matter of not wanting to be informed. It's a matter of not wanting to vomit. My not watching will not affect in the least my desire or intent to oppose him in any way I can.

I have built up some resistance to it over the last year.

What really really helps is knowing that he is going down. He is only a temporary threat. As someone wrote recently, he is a virus infecting the nation, and the antibodies are already at work to cure us of it! There will follow a period of rest and recovery--like restoring the damage legislatively and regulatory.

I'm an optimist; we will weather this thing.

I am also going to try to avoid the cable news analysis too. I don't want to even hear about how "presidential" he was from Van Jones or anyone else.

mentally, physically and psychologically.
I wouldn't go near it.

I will be in an orchestra rehearsal- Prelude to Die meistersinger, Sibelius Violin Concerto and Mendelssohn Reformation Symphony.

Much healthier activity- positive energy for my mind, my body and my psyche.

But, I wish you well with your health issues.

That has to be awful to not only worry about the cancer, but the cancer we have in the White House.

I will be watching for several reasons. 1) I love to watch him squirm, 2) I want to see if he sniffs a lot...cocaine? 3) I want to witness the fawning/false adulation of the Republicans, 4) I want to see Melania's reaction to his statement that she is the BEST FLOTUS in history and 5) I want to watch Ryan and Pence's glances at each other on lies. I can't imagine that any Democrat would yell, "You lie!" although the field is ripe with a bounty of nothing but, however, I will watch in anticipation. Maybe even a Republican will shout out.

Will be pulling for you for good news on the health care situation, but I'm not optimistic.

Really, not listening is self-preservation.

Trump does not deserve our attention. I wish more Dems had backbone enough not to attend. Why treat him like a normal presdent? He is a piece of shit. Fuck the norms.
