aside from a responsibility to make it abundantly clear that he is, in fact, lying, they should treat him the same way they treat a source that predictably lies -- they should ignore him as best they can.

as for the mean-spirited things he says, if they are covered at all, they follow it with many stories about how dangerous and damaging this kind of crap is, not simply marveling at how unorthodox it is and how his fan base of bigots loves him so.
