The last time I said that, I said it about a young, newly-elected Senator who gave one of the most powerful speeches I've ever heard at the 2004 Democratic Convention. Of that young Senator, I also said he was probably too young and/or inexperienced to make a run for President in 2008, but at some point in the future he'd be one to reckon with. And while my brain keeps warning me that Joe Kennedy is too young and/or inexperienced to make a serious run in 2020, but to keep an eye on him in years beyond, it also keeps reminding me that I said the same thing about a young Senator Obama.
I would love to see the young Kennedy, who embodies everything I loved about his grandfather, square off in a debate with the moron currently squatting in the Oval Office. Joe's not afraid of a fight, and that's exactly what we need out of our nominee: someone who is willing to drop the gloves and slug it out with President Dipshit. I don't know who will be running for the nomination in 2020, but I can say with a pretty good degree of certainty that unless Sherrod Brown runs, I'll likely be supporting Joe (assuming he runs, and I think allowing him to give the Democratic rebuttal tonight is a pretty good indication that it's at least being considered).

(694 posts)A former friend said that the people of the United States would never elect, as President, a man whose middle name was "Hussein".
I knew we would. I just never expected it to be as early as 2008.

(12,344 posts)But now I feel pretty positive on Joe Kennedy for 2020. If old and inexperienced didn't stop Trump, why would youth and a little experience stop Kennedy? If you stay in Washington too long, you pass your expiration date. Obama knew that. I think Joe Kennedy knows it too.

(58,785 posts)career arc, though. Running for president after two terms held by the same party is not a winning move. And he'd be 47, practically an old man.
Not sure he's a bad choice, though. Our leadership may know what they're doing, based on all the excitement generated by his name and age. We don't know if Young Kennedy has what it takes to be even a mediocre president, but it is looking like he might have what it takes to excite those who presently "lack all conviction," and maybe also pick up a few of "the worst" who are "full of passionate intensity." And if true that's huge.
We need that.

(58,785 posts)a lot of those for whom principles alone don't generate commitment, who need a leader to generate it in them.
Speaking of Brown, funny how most who claim to "miss" Al Franken have never noticed this fine man.

(5,738 posts)The Kennedys have always been in service of our country. We can't turn back the clock and get Bobby or JFK again, but this young man is a Beacon of Hope for the future
