The Russia scandal has finally landed on Paul Ryans doorstep. Thanks to the Nunes memo, Ryan can no longer hide from his role in Trumps Russia cover-up.
CNN reported on letters that Senate and House Minority Leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sent to Ryan:
Quite simply, under your leadership, dangerous partisanship among many House Republicans seems to have taken precedent over the oath we all take to protect our nation, Schumer wrote.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also sent a letter to Ryan calling Nunes actions dangerous and illegitimate, and called on Ryan to remove Nunes as Intelligence Committee chairman.
It is long overdue that you, as Speaker, put an end to this charade and hold Congressman Nunes and all Congressional Republicans accountable to the oath they have taken to support and defend the Constitution, and protect the American people, Pelosi wrote. The integrity of the House is at stake.

Thanks to Devin Nunes, Paul Ryans role as a Trump accomplice has also been exposed. The Russia investigation needs an independent counsel to investigate the role of Republicans in Congress in this scandal, but there are three ways that this will end for Paul Ryan. Ryan will lose the House majority, retire, or end up under investigation. Options one and two are the most likely, but there is no escaping the fact that Democrats are coming for Ryan, and this will not end well for the Speaker of the House.

On the verge of his biggest political victory, House Speaker Paul Ryan finds himself at the center of reports that he may step down after the 2018 midterm elections.
Politico reported in a speculative piece on Thursday that Ryan would like to "serve through election day 2018 and retire ahead of the next Congress." The House is soon to take up a final version of a GOP tax overhaul, something Ryan has for years clamored for.
CNN offered a more measured report that Ryan has had "soul searching conversations" about his future with friends.
When asked during a Thursday morning news conference if he was leaving soon, Ryan chuckled and said, Im not. No." His comment came before the two stories had been posted.

There were a bunch of articles that got floated around that time. And since then, he GOT what he wanted (tax cuts for the rich, repeal of individual mandate, elimination of additional ACA funding mechanisms including the medical device tax), so there is no more need for him to hang around.

I am glad both Schumer AND Pelosi are finally after him. They are going to have fun negotiating a budget though.

(129,413 posts)but I think since it got reported on multiple outlets, it was a pretty close-to-certain expectation.
Doing so would be a "win-win" for him because he got his (the Kochs') tax cuts for the wealthy passed and managed to make sure that Obamacare is slowly starved to death. He could certainly let someone else gut Medicare and Medicaid (assuming we don't win the House back) given he is very much linked to that.

The Dems have zero power in the House. They can complain and talk to the MSM, but it's quite apparent there will be no consequences. What would the consequences be? They've stacked every deck already.
The GOP knows what's at stake here. Power.
