FABULOUS idea picked up from Twitter -

I’ll say it again: today is a great day for @SenJohnMcCain & @JeffFlake to switch parties out of allegiance to Constitution, handing the Senate to the Democrats by Monday, and putting an immediate end to this assault on American democracy.
#theswitchthatsavesAmerica

ETA: Yeah, it's unlikely. BUT there have been things that have been "unlikely" in the past that have come about, so it's worth thinking about and even working towards IMO.

but they still believe in "Republicanism" or "Conservatism".

OTOH they are patriots... and should Trump be impeached... I wouldn't be surprised if both of them voted to convict and remove.

Switching parties? No...

The Senate holds the trial and either votes to convict and remove or not (66 needed).

This is mostly a mute question as I don't think either will be in the Senate should it be a question for them to consider.

And would be in a much stronger position to protect Mueller and to run REAL investigations of their own.

No, I don't see how the House committees have more overall control, but they do initiate impeachment. However, the Senate committees can develop evidence that is used for impeachment.

than now when we don't control a single branch of government.

We would STILL be controlling all the Committees in the Senate, and how they conduct their investigations, and what information is released.

The original Tea Partier? Ten years ago on DU we thought guys like Jeff Flake would be the death of the GOP, that conservatives couldn’t sink any lower.

Jeff Flake’s continuing political existence proves that there is nothing short of outright fascism that will mollify the conservative base. And if anyone thinks there’s the slightest chance he’ll do the right thing, ever, then have I got a fabulous bridge to sell you. If they weren’t stupid, cowardly, greedy, and/or ignorant, then they wouldn’t have been Republicans in the first place.

And McCain is a hypocrit of the highest order due to his conservatism while feeding at the government trough since he was conceived.

This word "patriot" is used so often now that it has lost any real meaning. I am a Desert Storm (Oil War I) vet and do not consider myself a patriot. I served to feed my family and was against that war.
