Something going on at the Hanford site

This is the internal notice just sent to tank farm workers. AOP-15 means get away and stay away.
Entering AOP-015 for oders on the exterior north/northwest side of SY Farm. Stay clear of this area. CSM

Just in from Hanford: Employees told to evacuate and stay clear of North and NW side of SY farm for possible chemical exposures. #hanford

I wish people would take a minute to explain what the heck they're posting.

It was opened in the Manhattan Project in WWII. It was closed many years ago, but there is still plenty of radiological dangers there. It's a Superfund cleanup site, but they've been trying to do that for over 20 years IIRC. Has several underground tanks which have been known to leak from time to time.

It's directly adjacent to the Columbia River, which could present a danger for millions of folks downstream, from Tri Cities to Portland to Astoria.

My dad worked for GE in the early '50's.

Some days I wonder why I don't glow in the dark.
