Other outlets, including the NY Times, followed within hours. But Glenn Greenwald, the same guy who supported Snowden and Assange, was the first to drop that story.
This was no accident. And I agree with McMullin -- Russia likely planted the story. And where did they plant it? The Intercept.

Trump appears to be working in concert with Moscow on this. Russians ran a likely dangle op (http://nyti.ms/2BnTZYs ) to set up US intel, which assessed and rejected it. Having taken the op as far as it could, Moscow likely planted the story. Now, Trump echoes Moscow's narrative.

According to the @nytimes, a Russian sold phony secrets on Trump to the U.S. Asking price was $10 million, brought down to $1 million to be paid over time. I hope people are now seeing & understanding what is going on here. It is all now starting to come out - DRAIN THE SWAMP!

(2,301 posts)Fox was immediately jumping on it and spinning it as "deep state conspiracy" nonsense.
The Intercept is controlled opposition. Putin is clever, I'll give him that.

(33,643 posts)When it really ALL took place in 2017 e.g. UNDER DOTARDS F***ING WATCH. And all seems to have started JUST AFTER Mueller was hired.
Appears that FSB was trying to help The Donald out yet again by providing 'evidence' for his whack-job 'intel services all conspired against me' storyline by forcing them to 'buy dirt on Trump' if they wanted these cyber-weapons back.
ORRRRR ... the whole thing is just top-to-bottom bullshit. I'd be disappointed if NYT was that gullible though.

(13,187 posts)And it is basically the same as the NYT story: an operation to buy back stolen hacking tools became a dodgy effort by Russian intel operatives to compromise the CIA with phony dirt on Trump.
