(19,204 posts)as much unqualified, evil ignorance as the Trump White House contains it's almost impossible for it not to rub off on you. It seeps through your skin by osmosis. Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln.......none of them would have stood a chance in the Trump administration. They'd be raging, homicidal maniacs within days.

I knew Kelly was not terribly worthy but didn't imagine it was that bad.
No wonder why abusers, human right deniers and human waste are flourishing in the WH.

TALLAHASSEE Rep. Matt Gaetz recently held himself out as a man who accepts responsibility for his mistakes.
He brought up his 2008 DUI arrest during a meeting last week of the House criminal justice committee, which he chairs. The topic: a bill that would keep mug shots of people who are charged with crimes off the Internet until they are convicted.
Though he was never convicted, his booking photo is readily available online, Gaetz said.
<SNIP>
He didn't have his license suspended for a year when he refused the breath test as Florida law dictates. And he didn't have that refusal used against him in a criminal proceeding. Charges against Gaetz were dismissed after events that included, among other things, the forced resignation of the arresting officer.

Rep. Matthew Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, 32, has been cited for 16 tickets since 1999, including one for driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Christmas 2011 in Jackson County.

(5,101 posts)After all, it seems normal to have a drunk driver to lead the Departement of transportation.
What did you expect from that circus pretending to be an Administration and where everyone is standing (or walking) on his head ?
It would have been deeply worrisome to pick someone competent for the position. It's kind of messy.

Congressman Matt Gaetz Applauds Gen. Kellys Call for Special Counsel, Mueller Recusal

Press Release
U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL-01), member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to White House Chief of Staff John Kellys call for a second special counsel, and for Special Counsel Robert Muellers recusal, during General Kellys recent interview on Fox News.
Washington, D.C. U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL-01), member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to White House Chief of Staff John Kellys call for a second special counsel, and for Special Counsel Robert Muellers recusal, during General Kellys recent interview on Fox News.
Earlier this year in July 2017, Rep. Gaetz offered an amendment in the House Judiciary Committee, as well as a stand-alone bill calling for a special counsel. To view the text of Rep. Gaetzs amendment in the House Judiciary Committee and stand-alone bill, click HERE and HERE. Additionally, to watch the video of Rep. Gaetzs offering the amendment in the committee, click HERE.
Evidence has emerged that the FBI withheld information from Congress and from the American people about Russian corruption of American uranium companies. These deeply troubling events took place when Mr. Mueller was the Director of the FBI as such, his ability to investigate these issues with impartiality is hopelessly compromised. General Kelly is entirely correct that Mr. Mueller should recuse himself for any investigations into the Uranium One deal.
A confidential U.S. witness, working in the Russian nuclear industry, began gathering information in 2009. This information revealed that Russia had deeply compromised an American uranium trucking firm through bribery and financial kickbacks. Federal agents obtained eyewitness accounts and documents showing that senior Russian officials routed millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, at a time when the Obama administration was making major decisions to benefit Vladimir Putins commercial nuclear program including selling twenty percent of Americas uranium to Moscow.
Although federal agents possessed this information in 2010, the Department of Justice continued investigating this matter for over four years. The FBI, led at the time by Robert Mueller, required the confidential witness to sign a non-disclosure agreement. When the witness attempted to contact Congress and federal courts about the bribery and corruption he saw, he was threatened with legal action. By silencing him, Obamas Justice Department knowingly kept Congress in the dark about Russias significant and illegal involvement with American uranium companies.
This is utterly outrageous. The sale of uranium requires Congressional oversight because it is a critical issue of national security. Any illegal Russian involvement in the development and sale of American uranium is an unacceptable threat to national security, and any pay-to-play connections between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department must be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The connections are too deep, and the evidence too well-documented, for this to be ignored.
In July, I introduced an amendment to H. Res. 446, calling for a second special counsel into the worrisome conduct of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller. That same month, I also requested this counsel in H. Res. 477. I am glad that General Kelly sees the need for a second special counsel, too. America deserves answers, and as more and more worrisome information comes to light, the need for a truly independent investigator is greater than ever, Rep. Gaetz said.

(58,677 posts)it's another empty Repub seat come November.
A single drunk driving arrest would not be red line for me, providing it was non-injurious to others and not repeated. A laundry list of associations with white nationalists certainly is.

The current Secretary of Transportation is Elaine Chao. There are no reports, anywhere, suggesting she's leaving. And no reports anywhere that suggest Gaetz is being considered for her cabinet post.
