SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP/CBS13) Sacramento City Unified School District is investigating the display of a controversial science fair project that some students, parents and staff say is racially insensitive.
The Sacramento Bee reported Saturday that the project by a Sacramento high school student, titled Race and IQ, questioned whether certain races lack the intelligence for the academically challenging coursework in the schools magnet program.
The project was on view with others Monday as part of an annual science fair but was removed Wednesday after complaints.
C.K. McClatchy High School Principal Peter Lambert sent an email Thursday to parents saying that the school is taking the incident seriously and implementing appropriate measures to provide an inclusive environment.

(40,216 posts)From my experience, Science Fair projects need the approval of the science teacher overseeing the students and that there are several papers and assignments that need to be submitted along the way as the research progresses. There is a lot of information missing from this article.

(22,154 posts)was the teacher and/or guidance advisor when this project was being put together, by the student? Sounds like the school facility needs to have some diversity training too.

This display looks like it was put together in less than 5 minutes.

The only suggestion I would make to Bippy is that next time, he use a glue stick instead of tape.

(4,167 posts)Bad correlation and regression. The question is legit and I would like to know why. The hypothesis was terrible and so were the variables. Didnt use other variables that could have been the cause.
