"The administrators of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Miami fired popular firstgrade teacher Jocelyn Morffi because she married the love of her life and then posted wedding photos on social media."
"The schools principal, Carlota Morales, sent a letter to parents announcing the firing this week, NBC4i reported. A spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Miami accused Morffi of violating her contract, which likely is a reference to a moral turpitude clausea vague and subjective concept usually reserved for people who commit felonies or otherwise shameful behavior.
Several parents whose children attend the school reacted to Morffis firing with outrage and confusion. One mother described telling her son that Morffi would no longer be his teacher, and the boy cried."
"You know, to be a Catholic, youre taught to be forgiving. But if youre gay, forget about it, parent Cynthia Cini told NBC."

Sadly, this is where we are heading with the introduction in many states of Orwellian named "religious freedom laws"

(11,949 posts)This is not new and had nothing to do with Trump.
Private Religious schools have always had morales clauses, as is their right. If you plan on teaching kids about your invisible friend and his list of silly rules you have the right to hire people who also believe in your friend and will follow those silly rules.

Enough to end world poverty right there.
I went through the early sixties catholic (eternal damnation for non-catholics crap) education system and that gives me the right to criticize that cult. For as long as I live.

(63,221 posts)about the decision. One mother said that Jesus was about love, tolerance and forgiveness and that the school was in the wrong here. They said she was "The Mother Theresa" of the school and should be re-instated. This decision was about intolerance and ignorance and never should have happened. Anyway, Catholics will be Catholics. I hope this woman finds a good job at a school that deserves her.
