Carl Bernstein, per Bill Palmer: Rachel Brand's husband's partner's negotiating a plea deal

for Rick Gates, Manafort's partner.

So she would have had a conflict if she had to oversee the Mueller investigation.

Also, if Bernstein is correct, this is additional confirmation that Rick Gates is negotiating a plea deal -- which would be a very good thing!

http://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/why-rachel-brand-trump/7869/

Carl Bernstein of Watergate investigative fame reported on CNN today that Brand’s husband is a partner in the law firm that just took over the defense for Trump-Russia suspect Rick Gates. That law firm is now negotiating a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. This means that Brand could not have been in charge of Mueller’s investigation. If Trump did oust Rosenstein, it would have forced Brand to take a pass, and hand it off to the next person in the line of succession.

ON EDIT:

Per Wikipedia, Rachel Brand is married to a Jonathan Cohn. Also, a Jonathan Cohn IS employed by the same law firm as a new lawyer of Rick Gates's, Tom Green.

Rachel Brand's husband Jonathan Cohn IS employed by the same law firm as Tom Green, a lawyer who is said to be representing Rick Gates (his first three attorneys having withdrawn.)

I don't think Palmer is a crackpot; I just don't think most of what he reports is original.

And I just confirmed one detail. Rachel Brand's husband Jonathan Cohn IS employed by the same law firm as Tom Green, a lawyer who is said to be representing Rick Gates (his first three attorneys having withdrawn.)

What would happen if Brand were called upon to play a role concerning Mueller's investigation while her husband was a partner in the law firm representing Gates, who's one of the targets of that investigation? There's obviously a conflict issue. How it would be resolved would depend on DC bar ethics rules, DoJ ethics rules, and the law firm's internal policies. I haven't read any of those. Not letting my ignorance deter me, and just shooting from the hip, I'll say: One eminently plausible answer is that both Brand and her husband could keep their jobs, but Brand would have to recuse herself from any duties concerning Mueller, while her husband would have to have no involvement in his law firm's representation of Gates.

A need for Brand to recuse herself is the only conjecture I see in the Palmer Report piece.

Prolific albeit often speculative; however, also often includes credible links to reputable news sites as is the case in this article.

I also go to Palmer for a one-stop gossip report and some out of the box thinking.

Still, no competition for DU.

But the news he actually bases this on is generally legitimate.
