Robert De Niro: US suffering from 'temporary insanity' on climate change

Actor Robert De Niro said the U.S. was suffering from "temporary insanity" on climate change, adding the country would eventually be cured when it votes out its "dangerous leader."

Speaking to an audience in the Middle East, De Niro said he was coming from a "backward" country, according to The Associated Press.

He cited comments from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) head Scott Pruitt that cast doubt on whether global warming is harmful to humans.

“I am talking about my own country, the United States of America. We don’t like to say we are a ‘backward’ country so let’s just say we’re suffering from a case of temporary insanity,” he said at Dubai’s World Government Summit.

He added that the U.S. would "eventually cure itself by voting our dangerous leader" out of the White House, meaning President Trump.

It isn't temporary. This has been going on since the 1970's in earnest. Caliman73 Feb 2018 #2

Remember that petroleum companies had reports in the 70's acknowledging that the increased rates of carbon emission were having an impact on the climate. Remember that President Carter tried to get higher emissions standards across the country. Remember that he put solar panels up on the White House. Reagan took the panels down and the car companies started making trucks and SUV's with low mileage.

It isn't just Trump, even though he is the loudest, most annoying, and most stupid possible spokes person for this hyper jingoistic mentality. We have an entire party that has been dedicated to denying climate science for the last 38 years. It isn't about "being backward" or not. It is about choosing the potential devastation of humanity in order to advance the wealth of the petro-barons and remain in power.
