Women who feel they cannot support a chile alone are more likely to seek abortion. If women had full support on reproductive rights and contraception. And they knew they could get equal pay, and economic support knowing they could afford to raise the child alone if necessary they would more likely NOT seek abortion.
Just plain punishment, jail and denial of services will not work. If anything it makes abortion more likely.
Some abortions are necessary and there will always happen. The idea is to make abortion as rare as feasible.

But the Party of Family Values says don't have children you can't afford.
If all of us waited to have children "we can afford," only the uber wealthy could have any!

(3,418 posts)Except in extreme situations such as rape, incest and significant fetal deformities most women would probably not choose abortion if they felt they had other options.
If you are really pro-life prove it in how you treat women. Provide health care to would be mothers and their babies. Provide free contraception so that a woman can control her reproductive live.
Provide high quality child care facilities for parents who work full time. Provide generous sick leave and family leave policies to all parents.
Show you care for those children in every aspect of their lives--good schools, decent housing, etc.
Of course, this will probably never happen in my remaining lifetime. In this country we must all sacrifice to the great gods of money and corporate profits which means we will never do what is right for ordinary men and women and children.

Given their druthers, many evangelicals would welcome requiring FGM. Can't have the little ladies actually enjoying sex, now can we?
The "wave" this year shouldn't be about Dems, per se. It is about women, or at least it should be.
