Mason, Oceana counties under severe thunderstorm warning. I can hear the thunder and smell the ozone here in Newaygo county. From radar it looks like I'll get hit too tonight. Big line of storms coming across Lake Michigan.
I'll stay tuned to NOAA. I am only 50 miles from the big lake.

(17,162 posts)I grew up in Indiana- prefer a California earthquake to the midwestern storms, any day.
Last one I saw, while I was visiting in 1998, scared me FAR more than the Northridge earthquake a few years earlier.

(40,416 posts)It's renovated. I have a cellar. No tornados forecast. I am more worried about the half dead maple tree near enough to the house.
I am fine here. More worried about other DUers in the area. My place is very strong.
Storms coming in here now. Lots of lightning and blustery winds.

(17,162 posts)I NEVER want to experience one of those storms again...
Such a helpless feeling.
In an earthquake, there are a few minutes of helplessness- and then it's over.
Not so with those storms back East....
Your place sounds wonderful!

(40,416 posts)Got wasp nests, raccoons and possums eating my cat's food at night (what she doesn't eat). Deer all over the place. Wild turkeys, too. Coyotes howl at night.
Wild elderberries down the road make nice homemade jam and wine.
A peaceful place except for the thunder-boomers which seem to passing to the north tonight.
Oh! A small trout stream next to my single acre.

(7,492 posts)Pigeon River area, a few years back. Severe storms rolled through, uprooting a 50' spruce that fell within few feet from my tent. Storms in the woods are scary.
