I saw early on the author's premise that the mass shootings embodied a sort of working class 'rebellion' against the elites - but it didn't go the distance.

These scumbag killers don't target corporations, political offices, rich people, etc. They blow members of their own class away.

The oligarchs use cultural wedge issues to divide us and promote rage and hatred, so when someone explodes, the rate is directed not at the exploiters but at the other victims of exploitation.
