The Republican Party has weaponized itself and your kids and community are collateral damage.

There will never come a time when Congressmen Paul Ryan thinks its time to talk about the carnage caused by guns, let alone gun control. He and his cohort of spineless, feckless money grubbing trumpers see you and your family as expendable. If you don’t like it, as far as they are concerned, get an AR-15 and fight your way out of your house so your kids can go to school, your wife can go to work.

We are experiencing a war on our society sponsored by weapons manufacturers via the NRA. High powered combat weapons have become the gun porn wanna be insurgent basement dwellers stroke while dreaming of being some sort of Rambo. All the while mumbling some version of how the second amendment protects their right to kill you in the most efficient manner possible.

Our schools and classrooms are not the wild west nor a frontier of some sort that requires armed teachers and radicalized environments that terrorize the kids with notions of impending doom at the hands of lost souls, deranged demons or suicidal loners. The true demons in this equation are the congressional representatives that accept cash in exchange for providing access to the weapons the killers use.

Laws removing these combat weapons from society are only a first step to providing children the possibility of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No decent society allows its citizens to slaughter each other. The second amendment doesn’t allow for it either.

The second amendment was promulgated by James Madison, along with nine others, in response to several inducements. The fear of a national standing army, Shay’s rebellion and the Whiskey revolt and the need for a militia to answer these issues were prime progenitors for the second amendment.

The conversion of or society from a loose confederacy to a republic with a strong federal government wielding the force necessary provided by law was the first response to these and other pressing issues. The Ten Amendments followed as a filter through which that strong federal government had to function. The second amendment was never intended to provide a citizens defense against federal excesses. It was to protect against exactly the opposite, the insurrectional notions that ran rampant at the time. A militia was necessary for the preservation of the newly formed nation. A nation that had an aversion to a standing army. It was a practical matter, not a suicide pact. States militias were considered a safe dispersal of armed power and all able men were expected to participate.

It’s time to have that discussion Mr Ryan, long past due. If you don’t want to have it, resign and let those who will allow honest discussion and debate occur so that those of us who want to have a life, some liberty and pursue, peacefully, happiness can work toward those goals.
