Help me understand how todays indictment is connected to the Steele dossier

Just got home and started catching up on the news. Wow, its confirmed the Russians messed with our election. Didnt see that coming when I walked out the door this morning.

So someone help me understand how we know that the Steele dossier is not just another Russian troll bomb. Or is it too early to tell.

Oy vey, my head hurts.

For real?

For one thing it was compiled by one of the most highly respected spies and Russia experts in the world.

Second, it's full of info on Trump which isn't at all flattering -- so how could it be part of Russia's PRO-Trump meddling?

Third, a bunch of Russians got whacked after it was published, because they'd obviouisly, from Putin's POV, contributed to what was in the Dossier (Steele had many personal contacts and used them).

So, does that answer your question?

ETA: It's basically NOT connected to the Steele dossier.

They were spreading disinformation to get him elected, what better way to spread discontent than causing division afterwards.

campaign?

I suppose it's possible, and maybe even likely, that some of the information is exactly that. That's why it's always been treated as "raw intel" and not confirmed.

However, it seems hard to believe that all of it is false. Indeed, much of it has been corroborated, or is consistent with what we know independently (such as the deliberate changes to official Republican policy at the convention).

Short answer is, today's news basically says nothing one way or the other about the dossier.
