Just to be clear: the Russians may have tried to hurt Hillary by helping Bernie, but

Bernie Sanders did not in any way coordinate with the Russians!

Some are coming close to making that ugly innuendo about a United States Senator, who they may not like, but is not a disloyal American like the Trump crime family.

He should be the only target.

It shouldn't be used to delegitimize the issues the Sanders campaign championed and that its successor movement continues to work for. None of that is discredited.

tell. But there was nothing in the post that. would merit such a thing. I had not heard that about Devine. There will be indictments in the Russian thing. I heard yesterday that even if you inadvertently helped the conspiracy, you can be charged. And I think some did so knowingly. But even if you didn't know, you can be charged. It is not inconceivable that some you would not expect to could face charges.

Sat Feb 17, 2018, 05:09 PM
Feb 2018

From his Wikipedia bio (but with the caveat that the "citation needed" tag has been there since 2013 so this passage doesn't fully meet Wikipedia standards):

Internationally, Devine has worked as a strategist and media consultant for the winning campaigns of Colombian President Andres Pastrana in 1998, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak in 1999, Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo in 2001, Bolivian President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada in 2002, Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in 1997, 2002 and 2007, Honduran President Mel Zelaya in 2005, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich and the Party of Regions in 2006. He worked again with Yanukovich in 2009 and 2010 for his successful Presidential bid. He served as a strategist and media consultant for Ashraf Ghani's 2009 presidential campaign in Afghanistan.[citation needed]

Michael Flynn was working as a foreign agent, and registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. He registered in 2017 for work he had done in 2016, which I assume is a violation. Paul Manafort also attempted a retroactive FARA registration, and his indictment is based in part on FARA.

If Devine registered properly, however, then he can't be indicted just because he worked for foreigners, even odious foreigners. I don't know if he did register, but, given that his international work dates back 20 years, my guess is that at some point he got around to it.

We're all democrats. We can be civil to each other.

Making us paranoid so we lash out at people who would otherwise be our allies is what the Russians are trying to accomplish and your post is a perfect example of it.

I left DU for almost a year too because I was sick of being called a Bernie-bot just because I support a progressive candidate. I voted for Clinton, but I'm not going to stick around and be insulted for thinking we could have put up a better candidate.

More than anything I didn't like about Clinton, what I resented was being told "You must like Clinton and if you don't you're sexist/brainwashed/trolling/ignorant/or now a Russian plant." That's no way to build a coalition that can defeat Trump.

And before you snipe at me for my low post count, I've been here since 2001. My account was deleted in the election night hack. You don't know that the person you're responding to isn't in the same situation.

Why not take a breath and at least try to give people the benefit of the doubt so you can have an actual conversation with them? Isn't that why we're all really here?

Which doesn’t mean he did anything, but he smells a lot like several people in Trump’s campaign. I’ll wait and see, but I won’t be shocked if he gets caught up in Mueller’s net.

Bernie isn’t suspected of collusion that I’ve ever heard. I’d be extremely shocked if he were personally involved.

Maybe the fact that he’s not bothering to address it is a sign he’s not planning to run? Which would be fine by me. I’ve already stated there is no support from me this next cycle for a Bernie run. I learned my lesson on that front in the 2016 cycle.

That this indictment proves collusion, but that the same language concerning Sanders is meaningless.

Ugly innuendo is the stock in trade of partisan politics. Best to discount it as landscape.

It's also best not to fall for that untenable dichotomy, and wait for any indictment that actually makes the allegation that people seem to depend on innuendo to confirm.

First, Bernie dismissed the phony email issue more than once. (You could have added that, even more tellingly, he didn't run attack ads mentioning the issue, which some of his supporters wanted him to do.)

Second, you're also correct that pointing out such facts is largely a waste of time.

We have to remember that Bernie supported Clinton in the general election and caught a lot of flak from "Never Hillary" types on the left for that. Those were the people most susceptible to Russian propaganda. Most of us Bernie supporters voted for Hillary in the general election.

And he'll say that they should be stopped.
