You know, its hard to know just how well it were turn out will turn out, said Romney, who ran the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. There are a few things that were disconcerting, the stories about the private security firm not having enough people the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging.
...
Cameron addressed that critique head on. In terms of people coming together, the torch relay demonstrated that this is not a London Games, this is not an England Games but this is a United Kingdom Games, Cameron said. Well show the world weve not only come together as a United Kingdom but are extremely good at welcoming people from across the world.
Cameron also fired back at Romneys concerns over security, and suggested British officials were dealing with more complex issues than Romney faced when he ran the show. We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world, Cameron said. Of course its easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.

Dem Foreign Policy Experts: Romneys London Fail A Sign Of Things To Come
Weve watched him insult the Brits in telling them that the nation that handled the Battle of Britain and showed resolve throughout very trying times cant pull together during the Olympics? Mark Jacobson, a former deputy NATO civilian representative in Afghanistan, told TPM on a conference call sponsored by the progressive Truman National Security Project. Thats not the right way to start off this trip abroad.
Jacobson said Romneys big stumble in England which resulted in near-uniform harassment from the British press as well as umbrage from British Prime Minister David Cameron betrays Romneys lack of experience in foreign policy.
Hes simply not ready for the very delicate diplomatic dance that is necessary when handling our countrys relations abroad, Jacobson said.

Mitt Romneys Magical Mystery European Disaster Tour Launches by Insulting Britain
...
Everyone makes gaffes, but Romney needs to prove that he is up to the most simple Presidential tasks preparing to meet other world leaders and learning enough about their protocol that he shows a modicum of respect. The tough stuff is actual wrangling through conflicting interests in order to find consensus on international issues. This, meet and greet, is supposed to be the easy stuff, because as long as you do your homework, you should be able to get through an introduction without too much trouble.
...
Romney must not believe he has to do any homework, and thinks he can bumble on over the pond and tell them they arent handling the games well. Perhaps this explains his refusal to take questions from the American press so far.
...But Chuck, perhaps what you cant see is that Romney was retroactively-retired from running for President when you asked your question.

(21,925 posts)He probably thinks it should be re-fought with a different outcome.
Seriously, though, Romney's problem seems to be that he knows it all already, that he has nothing to learn, and that since he's rich that others should shut up and listen.
Mutiny In Heaven
(550 posts)I would like to point out that Cameron has consistently been shown up as a blundering, flustered nitwit of late.
In spite of that, he has brutally owned Romney today; I mean : Of course its easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.
That is as classic, cruel and at least somewhat truthful a dismissal of a politician's pride and joy a you will see.
I detest Cameron, he's the closest thing we've had to Dubya, but in comparison to Romney...
Less than a day in and he's managed to forget Ed Miliband's name, offend anyone in the country who cares about the Olympics by inferring that perhaps the public doesn't care, offend the government AND reverse tack completely and hail Britain's readiness and passion for the game - watch the video taken outside downing street wherein he mentions, to paraphrase, the Olympic touch being met with joy by "thousands...er...umm MILLIONS of British citizens, in fact...".
LOL
I love America, but it churns out clowns wholly unsuitable for government at a rate unprecedented for the first world. It ain't just the US that suffers when such idiots are handed the keys to the White House by an extremist political party & spineless media capitalising on a credulous electorate!

(550 posts)I don't think the American electorate will prove itself stupid by referring all of Bush's failings to Obama and giving a man as obviously unqualified as Romney the helm. I know, I know, Dubya but 2000 saw a remarkably poor campaign by Al Gore & 2004 had the spectre of 9/11 and the, to some extent understandable, fear that lingered in hearts & minds and was really capitalised on by the Bush campaign.
My opinion is that only an impossibly stupid country would think that Romney is the answer, and I really don't believe that the United States is that.

(90,339 posts)...he's too stupid
Mutiny In Heaven
(550 posts)And Cameron is one, but I'm not sure Romney could get elected in the most true-blue Tory constituency.
He'd be withdrawn prior to the election to save the party the embarrassment if losing one of its safest seats. He'd make a local councillor at best, which isn't something that would satisfy such a wealthy man, so his political involvement would be short lived.

Oh, that's right, Rmoney is really not as intelligent as he'd have us believe.
