Florida students should reserve 'badge of shame' for NRA-bought Joni Ernst and David Young

Thoughts and prayers do not prevent schoolchildren from being slaughtered by gunmen.

Neither does calling a shooter “evil.” Or ordering flags lowered to half-staff. Or other gestures offered by Iowa’s GOP elected officials in the aftermath of a mass shooting at a Florida high school last week that left 17 people dead.

Americans do not need more condolences. They need lawmakers, governors and President Donald Trump to finally support gun control measures experts say can save lives.

The New York Times reported in October Ernst received more than $3 million from the NRA, making her the seventh largest recipient of NRA funds currently in the U.S. Senate.

Iowa’s 3rd District U.S. Rep David Young also deserves a “badge of shame.” He is identified as a top recipient of the NRA funds in the House, receiving more than $700,000 in campaign contributions. - Des Moines Register
