Fair Labor Standards Act Will Be GOP Target If They Get Power

The over regulation meme that the GOP spouts all the time will make the Fair Labor Standards Act A Target. This monumental law covers labor standards with regards to payment of wages. In the last fiscal year DOL has collected $224 million for 275,000 employees who have been short changed on their pay. Wage claims have essentially doubled and tripled since 2002 and since the GOP took power. Even though the Democrats had gained control of the House and Senate for a few years, they have not been able to advance labor bills due to obstructionism.

Wage theft is still growing as employers short change employees since the recession. Missclassification, abuse of lunch and regular breaks and just plain wage theft are considered normal business practices in this new era. In the US we are imitating third world countries. And even though DOL enforces wage laws, there is still an epidemic of wage theft in the country.

The GOP meme of over regulation is directly aimed at our labor laws. Employers claim that big government interferes with the free market when it comes to wages and benefits.

"let the markets determine wages", per Backman. So if a worker in China makes $2/day, then Americans making $5/day would bring back jobs and make America competitive. Of course, then we would all in effect be serfs at the mercy of the barrons.
