Keep in mind Manafort will publicly maintain his innocence right up until the very second he signs a plea deal. He has to do that to get the best possible deal.

(21,582 posts)you don't come out and say "i'm signing with team X no matter what they offer!" You wait until you have the best offer possible.
Manafort isn't stupid. He's not going to die in prison to save drumpf's ass. I think something else to consider too is his deal is going to have to include some sort of protection from the US government because putin's cronies will execute him if they get anywhere near him

(10,533 posts)Problem is, I think that Schneiderman is waiting in the wings with NY state charges.
Not to mention, it's unlikely a pardon from someone involved in the conspiracy (Trump) would hold up in court.
So his choices are: 1) flip, and face the wrath of Trump and the Russian mob, or 2) spend the rest of his life in prison.
He's fucked.

(21,582 posts)I guess Manafort missed what happened to Flynn. Drumpf isn't pardoning anyone for wrongdoing because it would come across as an acknowledgement of the Russia collusion, not to mention Manafort would have to tell the FBI everything he knows. any person that thinks drumpf is willing to accept ANY kind of hit to his credibility, even if it saved another man from life in prison, doesn't know drumpf very well. Drumpf wouldn't pull Manafort off train tracks if there was even the risk of getting some oil on his shoes.

(5,270 posts)"Special counsel Robert Mueller is accusing President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman of secretly paying former European politicians to lobby on behalf of Ukraine.
The new allegation against Paul Manafort comes in a newly unsealed indictment made public Friday. The indictment followed a guilty plea by Manafort's longtime business associate, Rick Gates.
The indictment accuses Manafort of paying the former politicians, informally known as the "Hapsburg group," to appear to be "independent" analysts when in fact they were paid lobbyists. Some of the covert lobbying took place in the U.S.
The indictment says the group was managed by a former European chancellor. Court papers accuse Manafort of using offshore accounts to pay the group more than 2 million euros."

(34,136 posts)Ricin is a poison found naturally in castor beans. If castor beans are chewed and swallowed, the released ricin can cause injury. Ricin can be made from the waste material left over from processing castor beans.
It can be in the form of a powder, a mist, or a pellet, or it can be dissolved in water or weak acid.
It is a stable substance under normal conditions, but can be inactivated by heat above 80 degrees centigrade (176 degrees Fahrenheit).
Where ricin is found and how it is used
Castor beans are processed throughout the world to make castor oil. Ricin is part of the waste mash produced when castor oil is made.
Ricin has been used experimentally in medicine to kill cancer cells.
How you could be exposed to ricin
It would take a deliberate act to make ricin and use it to poison people. Unintentional exposure to ricin is highly unlikely, except through the ingestion of castor beans.
If made into a partially purified material or refined into a terrorist or warfare agent, ricin could be used to expose people through the air, food, or water.
In 1978, Georgi Markov, a Bulgarian writer and journalist who was living in London, died after he was attacked by a man with an umbrella. The umbrella had been rigged to inject a poison ricin pellet under Markovs skin.
In the 1940s the U.S. military experimented with using ricin as a possible warfare agent. In some reports ricin has possibly been used as a warfare agent in the 1980s in Iraq and more recently by terrorist organizations.
Ricin poisoning is not contagious. Ricin-associated illness cannot be spread from person to person through casual contact. However, if you come into contact with someone who has ricin on their body or clothes, you could become exposed to it.

(2,857 posts)We have someone in our neighborhood that grows castor beans, but the beans are the only ingredient in mole poison the last time I got it. I need more because the moles are out of hand at my house.
The fact that tis is used as mole poison is pretty ironic.

(34,136 posts)Castor bean plants grow all over the place as ornamentals. As a kid one of our neighbors had them in their yard and the word was out to watch out for the beans. The homeowner always made sure to rake them all up and dispose of them, but if someone in the neighborhood wanted to commit murder, it would have been super easy.
They are attractive plants, though.

Putin has ways of getting rid of any inconvenient person, and Paul Manafort is definitely inconvenient. Hopefully it won't happen until after Mueller gets as much info out of him as he can.
